RESUMO

Human leishmaniasis, a zoonosis transmitted by a blood-sucking vector [a sandfly of the genus Lutzoinyia in the New World and Phlebotomus in the Old World] is caused by parasitic protozoa of the genus Leishmania. Reservoir hosts include dogs, cats and other animals, such as gerbils and jirds. An 80-year-old Saudi lady presented with a tumor-like mass of the right upper lid which proved histopathologically to be caused by Leishniania. An overview of the parasitology, epidemiology, development and treatment of leishmaniasis is presented. To the best of this author's knowledge this is the first case of Leishmania affecting the eyelid to be reported from Saudi Arabia

RESUMO

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a rare, non-neoplastic disease occurring mainly in infants under 1 year of age. We report a 2 ' -month-old infant with typical presentation and signs of this disease. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of juvenile xanthogranuloma with ocular signs to be reported in Saudi Arabia. We provide an overview of this rare disease entity [one of the most frequent causes of spontaneous hyphema in the pediatric age group], review the treatment plan for our patient, and describe the complications we encountered in this case
