RESUMO

Purpose: Nurses can directly influence health services quality and outcomes. They need correct information in due time to provide an effective service for the patient and other healthcare personnel. Nursing information system is a subsystem of hospital information system that can help nurses to have better performances. The goal of this study was to evaluate nursing information system of hospitals of Zahedan city, Iran


Materials and Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was done in 2013. Nursing information systems of four teaching hospitals in Zahedan were evaluated. A verified checklist was used to gather the data


Results: The studied nursing information systems had 42.19% of general data specifications and 72.33% of nursing data set. None of them had classification system standards. They had 45% of nursing data register priorities and 61.12% of report requirements


Conclusions: Based on the pitfalls in general aspects, data register and classification, holding educational workshops, classes, and bulletins are recommended for hospital nurses of Zahedan city regarding nursing information system. Providing nurses with enough hardware requirements, supervising their system use, providing nursing information systems based on nursing classification standards and contribution of nurses in selection and implementation of this system is also suggested

RESUMO

Background: care of patient is a complex function; then the care givers must establish standards and criteria for delivery and evaluation of care of patient. Along this fact, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations [JCAHO] has considered the international standards for care of patient [COP] in the hospital accreditation program; on the otherwise we must use international experiences for promotion of national hospital standards. So this research conducted to depict weaknesses of national care of patient standards in comparison with international one


Methods: In this descriptive-comparative study the Joint Commission's COP standards [70 statements] were compared with MOH's hospital standards [43 questions]. Data collection methods were use of available information on the internet [Joint Commission's COP standards] and the relevant references [MOH's standards]. Data were collected using seven checklists based on the joint commission COP standards and were analyzed with comparative tables and descriptive statistical methods


Results: Final collation of MOH's standards for hospitals and the Joint Commission's COP standards [43 questions versus 70 statements] showed that the former covered 13 statements [18.6 %] of the joint commission completely, covered 20 statements [28.6 %] partially, and did not cover the remaining 37 statements [52.8 %] at all. In other words, correspondence of MOH's hospital standards with those of Joint Commission was 18.6 % completely, 28.6 % partially and 52.8 % without any correspondence


Conclusion: In general Ministry Of Health's COP standards have been very weak from the point of compilation, quantity and content. According to philosophy of healthcare organizations and importance of qualified health cares services; it is necessary to reform national care of patient standards

RESUMO

According to role of patient and family education in the process of patient care, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations [JCAHO] has considered the patient and family education standards in the hospital accreditation program; on the otherwise conducted researches show that the Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education [MOHME] hospital standards are not complete. We conducted this study to be aware of MOHME patient and family education standards. In this descriptive - comparative study the joint commission patient and family education standards [10 statements] were compared with hospital standards of Iran Health Ministry [4 statements]. Using available information through internet, e-mail and referrals to related references was the method of data gathering. Data gathering was carried out through checklist, on the basis of patient and family education standards. Data analysis was done through descriptive statistical methods. The comparative rate of the Health Ministry's hospital standards with joint commission patient and family education standards were 0% completely, 40% partially and 60% with out adaptability. Findings showed that there was a gap in Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education hospital standards for patient and family education. Then compiling of patient and family education standards is essential
