RESUMO

Novel drug delivery system offers several advantages which could outweigh the benefits of other drug deliverysystems. The transdermal drug delivery system being one of them offers supremacy by by-passing the first passmetabolism which eventually helps in eradication of gastrointestinal irritation. However, the major drawback of thetransdermal drug delivery system is the hindrance created via the stratum corneum. This protective barrier of the skindoes not allow required penetration of the drug via skin into the systemic circulation. Thus, in order to overcome thishurdle, a replacement to this type of novel drug delivery system, namely, “microneedle drug delivery system” helpedto improve various pitfalls of transdermal drug delivery system, such as skin barrier function, restrictions towardusing of specific drugs only, bioavailability, patient compliance, diffusion rate, and plasma concentration level. Amicroneedle drug delivery system, thus, is advancement to transdermal drug delivery system which includes deliveryof drug via microneedle into systemic circulation, thus increasing patient compliance and avoiding problems renderedby transdermal drug delivery system.

RESUMO

Hand is a body part which is of major significance for communication, body language and social contact along with its fundamental function of grasping and feeling. Finger and partial finger amputations are some of the most frequently encountered forms of partial hand loss in India which causes devastating physical, psychosocial and economic damage to an individual. Rehabilitation of amputed finger is of utmost importance and the first choice is micro vascular reconstruction. But when it is contraindicated, unavailable, unsuccessful or unaffordable, the prosthetic rehabilitation is an alternative for improving the psychological status of an individual. Silicone finger prosthesis with modern prosthetic designs, fabricated with immense care, can be life-like and can assist the amputee in returning to society socially as well as psychologically. This case report presents the fabrication of custom-made silicone finger prosthesis along with acrylic resin custom made nail in an attempt to avoid costly procedures and provide best possible esthetic results.

RESUMO

All-ceramic restorations are considered no more as future but established and scientifically documented reality of our daily activities as dental practitioner. To ensure successful and long-term durability of all ceramic restorations, one of the key requirements is adequate cementation. In spite of using all ceramic restorations so frequently in our routine practice, very few are aware of exact bonding mechanism for it. This review enlightens us about all the aspects of all ceramic cementation.

RESUMO

Tridax procumbens L., Asteraceae, has been extensively used in Ayurvedic system of medicine for various ailments. Previous studies on the extracts of T. procumbens revealed remarkable immunomodulatory activity of TPEIF (T. procumbens ethanol insoluble fraction) extract. The dried methanol extract of T. procumbens was dissolved in distilled water, and then fractioned by re-extracting with chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol subsequently. Immunomodulatory activities of these fractions were determined in vivo. The amounts of total phenolic compounds were also determined. Ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions showed the significant immunomodulary activity. However, the ethyl acetate fraction exhibited the highest total phenolic content. Therefore, ethyl acetate fraction was subjected to further separation by chromatographic methods. Two phytochemicals SA-3 and SA-4 were obtained by repeated purification in sufficient amount to screen them for the immunomodulatory activity by the in vivo models i.e. neutrophil adhesion and delayed type hypersensitivity. In addition, the n-butanol fraction was subjected to silica gel column chromatography (CC); SA-6 was isolated from it. Mice were treated with two doses of SA-3, SA-4 and SA-6 (2 and 4 mg/kg) for fifteen days. Immune responses to T-dependent antigen SRBCs were observed using parameters like DTH and Neutrophil adhesion. Overall, SA-4 and SA-6 showed dose relative immunostimulatory effect on in vivo immune functions in mice. From these results, it can be suggested that these compounds may be used as potential immunostimulators. The structures of isolated phytochemicals were determined by UV, IR, NMR, and MS spectroscopic methods.

RESUMO

The formation of pseudoaneurysm in the femoral artery after cardiac catheterization is a well-recognized complication occurring in 1%-4% of cases. It is traditionally managed surgically and has a high morbidity. Prolonged ultrasound-guided compression of the neck of the pseudoaneurysm, and ultrasound-guided injection of thrombin into the aneurysm are newer modalities of treatment especially for small aneurysms. We describe the case of a giant pseudoaneurysm of the right femoral artery, post-arteriography, which was successfully managed with ultrasonographically guided percutaneous thrombin injection.
