RESUMO

20 hybrid hip surface replacements were performed in 16 rheumatoid patients with an average age of 27.5 years. The implant used was the Cormet 2000 made of cast CoCrMo alloy with a cementless hydroxyapatite-coated cup and a cemented femoral component. An extensile posterior approach was used in all cases, and for adequate exposure of the acetabulum the femoral head and neck were hided underneath the gluteal muscles after hip dislocation. At an average follow up period of 3 years [range 1-5 years], the clinical results were evaluated using the Harris Hip Scoring System [total 100 points]. The average preoperative score was 42 points and improved postoperatively to an average of 89 points. The radiological results showed osteointegration of all the acetabular cups. Except for one patient who developed femoral neck fracture 1 year postoperatively, there were no other significant complications.
