RESUMO

Diabetes is a source of stress for patients of all ages, but particularly during adolescence. The transition into adolescence is frequently marked by declines in adherence and metabolic control due to decreased parental responsibility for diabetes care. Many factors affect parents' ability to deliver diabetic care including: knowledge, parental self-efficacy and parental style. The aim of the study was to find the correlation of parenting style, parents' self-efficacy and adherence with glucose level among early adolescents with type I diabetes through an interview questionnaire and the impact of an intervention program on those determinants. Results showed that 40.5% of parents had authoritative style, 39.7% had authoritarian style and 19.8% had permissive style. There was a positive correlation of adherence and metabolic control with knowledge, self-efficacy and authoritative behaviors of parents. Following the intervention, there was improvement in knowledge, self-efficacy, authoritative behaviors and adherence and no significant effect on metabolic control

RESUMO

The objective of obturation in endodontic is total obliteration of the root canal system and development of a fluid-tight seal at the apical foramen. The aim of this work was to compare the apical seal of four root canal obturation techniques namely lateral condensation technique, vertical condensation technique, warm lateral condensation technique with an ultrasonically activated spreader and Thermafil, when used with two different root canals sealers. 80 extracted human maxillary anterior teeth were used in this study. All root canals were instrumented by the step back technique. Root were divided into four groups [according to the technique of obturation and each group was further subdivided into two subgroups according to the type of sealer used. Leakage evaluation was done by using clearance technique by maximum linear apical dye penetration. The results were tabulated and statistically analyzed. The obtained result showed that there was no significant difference among the four obturation techniques, regarding the apical leakage with insignificant difference between the two sealers. Vertical condensation is the most time consuming technique. Sealer extrusion occurs with all the specimens obturated by Thermafil. Clearing technique is a valuable method in evaluating apical leakage in extracted teeth

RESUMO

Successful root canal treatment depends on removal of pulp tissue, bacteria and necrotic debris from the root canal system, with adequate canal shaping that facilitates obturation. Recently a variety of engine drive rotatory systems have been introduced to the market in an attempt to simplify canal preparation especially the curved canals and reduce operator fatigue. The aim of this work was to evaluate the Profile and the light speed rotary systems together with their recommended obturation techniques which are the Thermafil and the Simplfill respectively, versus the conventional hand instrumentation with Ni-Ti K-files using step-back technique and lateral condensation obturation technique, regarding three parameters, cleanness of instrumented canals, canal deviation and leakage of obturated canals. 90 Freshly extracted human mandibular molars were used in this study. Teeth were divided into three main groups according to the method of canal preparation. Each group was evaluated by histological examination, digital radiography assessment and apical dye Leakage. The Profile and the lightspeed rotary systems, and also the hand instrumentation by the Nitiflex files were able to remove the major contents of the instrumented canals at #35 apical preparations. But none of them totally debrided the entire root canal system. The Lightspeed rotary instruments were superior to the hand instrumentation with the Nitiflex files in maintaining the original canal curvature

RESUMO

Strongyloidiasis, caused by strongyloides stercoralis, is diagnosis considered as a challenge to clinician and laboratory technician. Because the autoinfective larvae are difficult to eradicate one regimen dose may be insufficient and retreatment of patients on two occasions, at 1 and 2 months after the initial treatment dose was recommended. This retreatment regimen has yet to be proven in clinical trials. This study was performed on 24 patients who completed the study and having Strongyloides larvae in their stool obtained from Mansoura University Hospitals. Each stool sample was examined by direct saline smear, the formalinether sedimentation technique and agar plate culture patients were treated Mirazid double course for a month to be followed up by stool examination by traditional method and plate culture for three consecutive months. In this study five cases out of 24 were asymptomatic [20.8%]. Symptoms include abdominal manifestations as and vomiting [16.7%], epigastric pain and nausea [12.5], generalized abdominal pain [12.5%], chronic diarrhea [16.7%], irregular bowel habit [8.3%], and urticaria with abdominal pain [4.2%], Agar plate culture gave 100% positivity, even in cases were negative by coprological either direct smear and/or sediment tation technique. All cases were cured by Mirazid given for one month except there resistant cases. Only one cases responded to repeated course of Mirazid, while the other two cases still had larvae in their stool by agar culure plate. On combined therapy of both Mirazid and Mebendazole, larvae could be eliminated from their stool as approved by agar plate culture.
