RESUMO

Comparative data on safety and efficacy of new generation drug-eluting stents (DESs) are still lacking, theobjective of this study is to compare the safety and efficacy of commonly used DESs in patients with coronaryartery disease (CAD). Individual data of 146 consecutive patients (119 male and 27 female) stented with differentDESs such as Sirolimus (SESs), Everolimus (EESs), or Zotarolimus (ZESs) eluting stents were randomly collectedfrom various hospitals in South India. Pooled data were retro-prospectively analyzed, the primary end-point ofthis study was determination of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and individual events, which is acomposite of cardiac death, target vessel related myocardial infarction (TV-MI), target lesion revascularization(TLR), target vessel revascularization (TVR), stent thrombosis (ST), and in-stent restenosis (ISR) at the end ofclinical follow-up which was scheduled at 3 months once up to 1 year after angioplasty. Baseline clinical andcardiac characteristics, angiographic and stent procedural characteristics, efficacy and suspected adverse reactionswere compared. Our study results indicate that SESs (a first-generation DES) were found to be non-inferior toEESs and ZESs in reducing risks and remains safe and effective at the end of 1-year clinical follow-up period inCAD patients after angioplasty.

RESUMO

The present study was done through structured questionnaires in consultations with the local practitioners with plants. In this study, we identified 62 species used from the District flora, which belong to 55 genera and 26 families. This study explained that there are numerous native plant species used in different life fields as medicine, cosmopolitans, ornaments, fuel, agriculture, building etc. The aim of this study is to document the traditional knowledge of plants that are used in different life fields by the local people, so as to be in hand for all

RESUMO

Human Polyoma BK virus is a DNA virus that has many transmission methods including feco-oral, respiratory, transplacental and from donor tissue with a usual unnoticed primary infection. Reactivation of Polyoma BK virus occurs in immunsuppressed patients such as pregnant females, cancer patients, patients with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection and recipients of renal or other allografts. Reactivation in renal transplant patients manifest as renal dysfunction resembling acute graft rejections and my be complicated with graft loss. In this study we aimed to evaluate different pathological and molecular methods in diagnosis and monitoring BK virus nephropathy [BKVN]. Twenty renal transplant patients represented with renal dysfunction manifested clinically and by elevation in serum creatinine level were investigated by means of histopathological examination of renal biopsy specimen, detection of decoy cells in urine cytology specimen and detection of Ployoma BK DNA in urine and plasma by PCR. Three patients out of 20 [15%] were diagnosed as BKVN positive by urine cytology, histpathological examination of renal biopsy and by detection of BK virus DNA in urine and plasma. Not all these methods were approved to be useful in monitoring our positive cases after reduction modification of the immunosuppressive therapy. Detection of decoy cells in urine cytology specimen and detection of Polyoma BK virus DNA in urine were the most efficient and reliable methods for monitoring BKVN

RESUMO

The treatment and method of rehabilitation of laryngeal cancer depends on the clinical staging and site of the tumour .The early detection of laryngeal cancer and less tissue loss leads to good results of rehabilitation. Current methods of vocal rehabilitation after total laryngectomy include development of esophageal speech, use of electro-larynx and Trach-eoesophageal fistula with prosthesis. Also the early detection of laryngeal cancer will make a minor tissue loss after procedures, and so limit the problems of rehabilitation [speech and swallowing]. The aim of this study is to compare the voice results of patients who underwent: total laryngectomy with provox prosthesis and conservative laryngectomy. This study included 2 groups; 19 patients who underwent laryngectomy for control of laryngeal carcinoma subdivided into 2 groups according to surgical procedures 9 patients with total laryngectomy with provox processes and 10 patients with conservative laryngectomy and 6 normal as control group. After voice analysis for the two test groups and comparison to the control group, there was significant difference between conservative group and provox group as regards intelligibility score and number of words per minute and also Shimmer and noise to harmonic tests of this study showed that conservative laryngectomy group is relatively better than provox group in many parameters of analysis; this may be due less tissue loss in conservative group

RESUMO

Dizziness, tinnitus, headache and neurological deficits are usual presentations in cases of cervical spondylosis [Janke and Hart, 1991]. The disease though common but is usually forgetten cause of symptoms related to the ear. We have examined 20 patients of cervical spondylosis to evaluate the relation of this disease to the above mentioned symptoms. The incidence of symptoms related to ear, nose and throat are discussed and the effect of management of cervical spondylosis on them is recorded
