RESUMO

This study was conducted on 30 women, 20 of them were suffering from stress incontinence used as a studied group and the remaining ten women were normal continent served as a control group. The position and mobility of the bladder neck were studied in both groups using a simple standardized vaginal ultrasound technique to find out if this technique has a diagnostic and prognostic value in stress incontinence cases underwent vaginal bladder neck plication. A standardized bladder volume of 250 ml and a standardized valsalva force of 30 cm H2O were used. The bladder neck position was significantly more posterior and low down during straining, but not at rest, in stress incontinent group than in the control group. The bladder neck mobility in stress incontinent group was significantly diminished postoperatively. In conclusion, the standardized vaginal ultrasound technique was a feasible technique for the study of female bladder neck mobility. It had a considerable value in the evaluation of women with stress incontinence as well as it can be used in predicting the success of the surgical procedure used for repair
