Calcium channel blockers in the treatment of hypertension

Calcium channel blockers [CCBs] have gained increasing importance in the treatment of hypertension during recent years. These drugs lower the blood pressure by their cardiac and vascular effects. Possible cardio protection and a favorable influence on progression of atherosclerosis may be the additional advantages.
