Extradural Hematoma - An Experience of 300 Cases

Three hundred cases of extradural haematoma seen over a period of nine years from June 1995 to May 2004 in Neurosurgery unit of Postgraduate Department of Surgery, Government Medical College, Jammu were analysed retrospectively for their clinical profile and operative measures. Their clinical presentation varied from intense headache to deep coma and fixed pupil. Two hundred forty five of them were operated and rest managed conservatively. Overall mortality in operated cases was 14%. Cases managed conservatively were monitored closely and serial CT Scans were done to assess progress. In two cases we had to operate as haematoma increased in size.

Spinal Intradural Metastasis

We describe a rare case of intradural Spinal metastasis.We discuss herein the clinical presentation and role of surgery and radiotherapy in such cases.

A case of orimary neuroectodermal tumor of scalp in infancy is presented.

Pyogenic Brain Abscess and its Management

Forty-five cases of Brain abscess diagnosed were treated by elective aspiration through a burr hole and intra-cavitatory application of antibiotic. Repeated aspiration was needed in 30 cases and in only 05 cases surgical excision of abscess along with capsule was done. Mortality in our series was around 11 %. Cases with otogenic/sinusitis as causative factors did better than those cases. which were due to haematogenolls spread. Corticosteriods were not used in the managernent protocol. Five cases needed care in ICU with ventillatory support, 03 of which died.

Osteoblastoma. Cause for wry neck.

A 14 year old boy with a relatively uncommon benign osteoblastoma of C5, C6 vertebrae presenting with wry neck is described with a brief review of literature.
