RESUMO
Atualmente, a interceptação das más oclusões é rotina nos consultórios de Ortodontia como primeira fase de tratamento multifases. Entretanto, a utilização desta possibilidade terapêutica, sem um pensamento crítico, expõe os pacientes ao risco de um tratamento desnecessário. Uma fase interceptora somente se justifica se a qualidade final do tratamento ortodôntico for melhor (mais eficaz) ou a fase corretiva puder ser significativamente simplificada (mais eficiente). O objetivo deste artigo é, na busca pela excelência em Ortodontia, trazer uma reflexão sobre o tema eficácia e eficiência das interceptações das más oclusões.
Interceptive orthodontics is routinely used in the orthodontic practices as a first phase of multiphases treatments. However, using these therapeutic techniques without criticism on their effectiveness and efficiency, expose the patients to over-treatment. An interceptive approach should be planned only if the quality of the orthodontic treatment will be improved or the complexity of the full braces appliance therapy can be significantly reduced. The aim of this paper is to bring a reflection on effectiveness and efficiency of interceptive orthodontics.
