The concept of chemoprevention is based on the identification of biological events that occur early in the epithelium and marked events for preventing the progression of malignancy. Retinoids are all the natural or synthetic structural analogues of vitamin A. These substances regulate several important cell functions such as modification of cell growth and differentiation.
