Portador de uma mensagem e, portanto, de uma significação, o sintoma satisfaz ao mesmo tempo um gozo obscuro, refratário ao sentido. Se nós o amamos mais do que a nós mesmos é porque ele é nossa marca singular dos primeiros traços linguajeiros que marcam o corpo: a abordagem lacaniana do sinthoma dá conta desta positividade irredutível. Porém, para desembaraçar o sintoma, a análise lança mão de palavras, de significantes, ou seja, de semblantes.
