RESUMO

The main objective of the present study was to estimate the recent completeness level of mortality registration among infants for the whole nation, different governorates [urban/rural] and both sexes. Regarding the completeness rates derived from the application of Trussell's technique and those implied from the application of the childhood mortality, it could be clearly noticed that the results of these two approaches are mostly in consistency with each other, on the one h and, and consistent with the results of sub-section that involves the evaluation of death registration among infants, on the other h and. Limited variations between the two sexes and substantial ones among urban and rural areas were reflected throughout the results of the application of the two techniques. Moreover, the governorates which showed strong evidence of lower levels of registration, such as Suez among urban governorates, Kafr El-Sheikh, Damietta, and Daqahlia in Lower Egypt and Qena in Upper Egypt also reflected the lower completeness rates among other governorates of each region according to the results of the two approaches. Although, the two approaches showed high consistency in the direction of completeness rates, they still portray somewhat variations in the value of completeness rates. In general, Trussell's technique reflected higher level of completeness either for the country as a whole [90% for males and 89% for females using Trussell's technique against 86% for males and 74% for females using childhood approach] or for different governorates. Therefore, a range for completeness rates was recommended whenever the Trussell's technique results constitute its upper limits, while the results of childhood mortality approach could be considered as its lower limits
