Estrategias para la promoción de la salud bucal en pacientes y especialistas de la clínica estomatológica César Escalante / Strategies for promoting oral health in patients and specialists at teaching dental clinic Cesar Escalante

El componente de la salud bucal continúa siendo un aspecto fundamental en las condiciones de vida y de bienestar de la población, requiere consolidar un cuerpo de conocimientos teóricos y metodológicos que permitan abordarlo desde sus dos dimensiones: la social y la biológica, para sustituir las metas basadas en la enfermedad, por metas sustentadas en la salud, desarrollando una práctica odontológica con sentido de totalidad. Esta investigación consiste en proponer estrategias que contribuyan al desarrollo de la promoción de la salud bucal en pacientes y especialistas de la Clínica Estomatológica Docente César Escalante. Se emplearon los siguientes métodos: analítico-sintético y el inductivo-deductivo, con el propósito de analizar los principales temas de la promoción de la salud bucal. El histórico–lógico, con el fin de estudiar el desarrollo de las tendencias actuales de la promoción de la salud bucal de las magnitudes del consultorio No.1 de la Clínica Estomatológica Docente César Escalante. El universo estuvo constituido por 66 niños de 12-14 años, 9 embarazadas y 10 especialistas. El estado de salud bucal de los pacientes mejoró significativamente luego del aprendizaje obtenido. La evaluación de las estrategias implementadas resultó positiva. Los mediadores expresaron que hubo cambio de conducta en los pacientes respecto al cuidado de su salud y en relación a los hábitos de higiene se observó aumento del uso del cepillo y una mejora sustancial en la calidad del cepillado.

The oral health component is still a main aspect in the population life conditions and welfare, requiring the consolidation of a corpus of theoretic and methodological knowledge allowing to affront it from its two dimensions: social and biologic, to substitute the aims based in the disease , for aims based in health, developing an odontological practice with a sense of totality. This investigation consists in proposing strategies contributing to oral health promotion among patients and specialists of the Teaching Dental Clinic Cesar Escalante. We used the analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive methods:, with the purpose of analyzing the main aspects of the oral health promotion. The historic-logical method was used to study the development of the current tendencies of oral health promotion at the level of Doctor´s Office Nr. 1 of the Teaching Dental Clinic Cesar Escalante. The universe was formed by 66 12-to-14-year-old children, 9 pregnant women and 10 specialists. The oral health status of the patients became significantly better after the learning process. The evaluation of the implemented strategies was positive. The mediators expressed that there was a change in patients’ behavior with respect to health care and, in relation with the hygienic habits, there was an increase of the brush usage and a substantial improvement of the brushing quality.

El sistema de salud cubano se encuentra en profundas transformaciones en todas sus esferas, dentro de éstas la Estomatología, lo que demuestra la constante preocupación por resolver los problemas en cuanto a la promoción de la salud bucal de los estudiantes y estomatólogos,a pesar de esto,es limitada la búsqueda de conocimientos para aprender y planificar su promoción. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal para evaluar el nivel de conocimientos sobre consejería de Salud Bucal en la Clínica Estomatológica Docente César Escalante de Matanzas, en el mes de febrero del año 2008. El universo estuvo constituido por 15 estomatólogos generales, 15 técnicas en atención estomatológica que laboraron en el servicio durante la investigación. Se encuestó a 15 estudiantes de quinto año, seleccionados por un muestreo y se evaluaron diferentes aspectos relativos a la estructura, proceso y resultados sobre la base de criterios y indicadores, en los que se empleó el porcentaje como medida de resumen. Se recomienda utilizar el sitio Web de material teórico-metodológico como fuente de información y de reflexión para la superación de estudiantes y estomatólogos a nivel provincial.

The Cuban health system is being object of deep transformations in all of its spheres, Stomatology among them, showing the constant preoccupation for solving problems. In relation with oral health promotion among students and dentists, searching for knowledge to learn and planning its promotion is limited. These deficiencies are tightly linked to problems of knowledge solidness, and also of limited usage of strategies for promoting oral health, so it is necessary to work in favor of the oral health promotion. We carried out a transversal, descriptive study to evaluate the level of knowledge on Oral Health counseling at the Teaching Dental Clinic Cesar Escalante of Matanzas, in February 2008. The universe was formed by 15 general dentists and 15 technicians in dental care who worked at the service during the investigation. 15 students of the 5 th year were inquired and we evaluated different aspects related with the structure, the process and the results on the bases of criteria and indicators, using percentage as resuming measure. We detected a low level of professional competence and of knowledge on Education for the professional competence, and also a low level of knowledge on Health Education, and an inadequate performance. After analyzing the problems, the author designed a Web Site including new elements and ratifying those established in the program of Oral Health promotion. We recommend using the Web Site of theoretic-methodological material as a source of information and analysis for preparing students and dentists of the province.
