RESUMO

 This study examines the khowledge, atitude and practice (KAP) of sexual activity and family planning among vocational students in Khon Kaen.  The study process consists of 4 part : 1) collection of KAP information using self reporting pretested questionnaire, 1) verification of practice information using anthropological procedure, 3) health education about family psychology, sex education, family planning, unwanted pregnancy and induced abortion and sexually transmitted diseases, and 4) family planning service.  The response to the same three questionnaire during one year period was completed in 44.82% of the students (502/1120).  The detail of the study results will be presented.  The other conclusion which can be drawn from this study is that the sexual practice information can be collected more reliably by the combination of sociological and anthropological methods.

RESUMO

Background: Out-Patient department is the first place where patients and relatives met hospital team. There are many steps for hospital service delivery.  Hospital consumers satisfaction is an important measure of service quality in health care organizations.  Therefore, a hospital consumers satisfaction on Out-Patient department was studied.Objective: To assess the peri9od of time consumed for receiving services; to assess the level of satisfaction of hospital consumers in each step of Out-Patient department service: and general opinion related to out-patient activates.Design : A descriptive research.Setting :  Out-Patient department, Srinagarind Hospital Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen UniversitySubjects: 803 patients and relatives were selected by purposive sampling.  The subjects were new and former cases.  The were not limited by sex and age.Measurement : Interviewed questionnaires with reliability 0.85 were used.  The data were collected by interviewing the subjects in front of Pharmacy unit which is the last step of hospital service.Results: The mean (+SD) age of participants was 40.8+13.8 years. The most of 19.9~ and 15.1% were checked and treated in medical and general practitioner checked –up room respectively. Average time consumed in mal waiting time more than 5 hours. Average time consumed for the whole process was 2 hours and 51 minutes with the longest waiting time more than 8 hours (2 cases).  The study also found that the dentist check-up room was longest waiting time with 1 hour 45 minites.  The time to wait in medicine check-up room and at general practitioner check-up room was 1 hour 42 minites, and 1 hour 32  minites, respectively.  The result show that the hospital consumers were moderate by satisfied with the services. The highly satisfied service was in Public Relations.  The least satisfied service was cashier room.  However, some hospital consumers were less satisfied to all steps of out-patient education and counselling related to their illness.Conclusion : Hospital administrator should plan to improve and implement Out-Patient manpower development program to orientated the hospital employees to the various aspects of health service.  It is necessary to provide one-point service and to provide a computer system to cooperate among the clinical departments.  Furthermore, it is highly recommended that the standard of care and tow-way communication should be more clearly brought into use in each step as a measure of the ongoing.Keywords: Satisfaction, Out-Patient Services, Srinagarind Hospital

Background: The Faculty of Medicine annually allocates its own budget for research grant but the numbers of research publication each year in the previous study was only 21.5%Objective: To study and improve the supportive system for research publication within the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University.Setting: The Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University.Design: Descriptive  studyMethods: The sequences of the study included; phase 1) reviewed proposals granted by the Faculty of Medicine between the years 2002- 2004 and then a structured questionnaire was sent to all principal investigators; phase 2) problems related to research publication were analyzed after discussed with a focus group who were involved in research activities; phase 3) reported the problems to the Faculty’s administrative board; and phase 4) Post-evaluation after supportive system changed. Outcome measures: Numbers of proposal granted, total amount of the budget funded, numbers and factors related to research publication were recorded.Results: During the studied period there were 204 proposals granted with amounted to 11,567,715 Baht. Only 71 proposals (34.8%) of the researcher could finish their work within 1- 3 years after granting and made the final report to the Faculty. Thirty –six out of 71 proposals (17.6% of granted proposal) were submitted for publication, where 32 have not prepared the manuscript. Most of non-publication (75%) grants were done by postgraduate students. The existing supportive system for publication within the faculty includes; institutional journal (in Thai), English consultant, page charge fee, and reward prize for index journal publication. The administrative board of the Faculty responded to the reported problems by improving the supportive system, however, changing for research publication may take times.Conclusion: The Faculty of Medicine has a completed supportive system for publication but only 17.6% of granted proposals were submitted for publication. Most of non-publication was postgraduate students. The Faculty now is doing some changes of supportive system that might raise the number of publication.Keyword:  research funding system, research utilization, publication
