Of 158 cases of ovarian neoplasm seen within a period of 12 years in the department of pathology, Regional Medical College, Imphal 118 (74.68%) cases were benign and 40 (25.32%) were malignant. Surface epithelial tumours were the commonest being 66.45%. Ovarian carcinoma constituted 12.08% of all malignant gynaecological diseases and it formed the 2nd commonest gynaecological malignancy after carcinoma of the cervix. The peak incidence of benign tumours were in the age group of 21 to 30 years while that of malignant tumours were in the age group of 31 to 50 years.
