RESUMO

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal sobre las experiencias y el impacto logrado por una brigada médica cubana en el territorio sur de Honduras, Centroamérica, después de ser azotado por el huracán Mitch. El estudio describe las características geográficas, demográficas y socioculturales de ese país y caracteriza al sistema de salud hondureño y sus resultados. Se analizó el trabajo desempeñado por un equipo multidisciplinario médico cubano en el que se expusieron las experiencias, logros y el impacto alcanzado en el contexto preventivo asistencial. Se destacaron la introducción y actividades quirúrgicas no realizadas con anterioridad en el territorio. Los resultados en el programa materno-infantil y en el control de enfermedades infecciosas implicaron el reconocimiento del pueblo, la secretaría de salud y el gobierno de ese país.


A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out about the experiences and impact achieved by a Cuban medical brigade in Honduras, Centroamerica, territories after the severe spanking of Mitch huracane. This study describes geographic, demographic, and sociocultural characteristics of countries and characterized the health system of Honduras and its results. It analyzed the work performed by a multidisciplinary team of Cuban doctors and the exposition of experiences, attainments and impact gained in the assistance preventive context. It was shown the introduction and surgical activities that were not performed previously in the territory. Results in the mother-infant program and in the control of infections diseases involved population acknowledgement, health secretary and government of this country.

RESUMO

El Altim es endeed a new city on the highlands of La Paz (Bolivia) (400.000 INH) with the highest population growth rate in the continent due to an important migration form rural areas, around La Paz city. A survey was conducted in 1990 in order to obtain information about patterns of drugs consumpion in 12 areas of this new city 1176 families wew interviewed, at the same time questions on basic health indicators were araised. Results are commented in this article
