RESUMO

Introduction: In this study, the effect of continuous aerobic training on serum indices of liver tissue damage enzymes [aspartate aminotransferase [AST], alanine amino transferase [ALT], and alkaline phosphatase [ALP]] in rats with myocardial infarction [MI] were evaluated. Material and Methods: For this purpose, four weeks after MI, 30 male Wistar rats were randomized to the following groups: 1: Sham [n=10]; 2: MI-sedentary [Sed-MI], n=10 and 3: MI-exercise [Ex-MI], n=10 the rats were subjected to aerobic training in the form of treadmill running for 10 weeks [5 days per week] at 17 m/min for 50 min/day. At the end of training program, serum AST, ALT, and ALP were measured by ELISA kits. Results were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance [ANOVA] and P<0.05 was considered as significant level. Results: AST activity, in the MI-sedentary and MI exercise groups was significantly higher at the end of training [p=0.01], there was however no significant difference between MI-sedentary and MI-exercise [p=0.93]. Alanine amino transferase was also significantly increased after MI [p=0.02], there was howere no significant difference between MI-exercise and the MI-sedentary groups [p=0.55]. ALP activity was comparable between groups [p=0.9]. Conclusion: Ten weeks continues aerobic exercise training with moderate intensity had no effect on liver function in rats with MI. To better evaluate the effect of exercise training on liver pathological indices immunohistochemical analyses are needed

RESUMO

Background: It has been hypothesized that obesity and disturbance in glucose metabolism can play an important role in the development of asthma. There is accumulating evidence in the literature that obesity can increase both the incidence and severity of asthma. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between adiponectin, an anti-inflammatory cytokine, and blood glucose levels in overweight and obese adult patients with asthma

Materials and Methods: Forty-fine obese or overweight men [age 38-50 years] with mildto-moderate asthma referred to Saveh health centers participated in this study. Fasting blood glucose, insulin, and adiponectin levels were measured. The homeostasis model assessment [HOMA] was applied to evaluate beta-cell function using fasting glucose and insulin levels. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient

Results: The results of this study showed that there was a significant relationship between the serum adiponectin and FEV1/FVC, FEV1 and FVC in asthma patients. In addition, serum adiponectin level was positively correlated with insulin and beta-cell function, but negatively with fasting glucose level

Conclusion: According to the results, there is a negative correlation between serum adiponectin levels and blood glucose concentration in adult asthmatic patients. Furthermore, our findings showed that the reduction of systemic adiponectin level influences blood glucose concentration via insulin level and beta-cell function

RESUMO

Despite 20 years of research, there is no compelling evidence about the effect of carnitine supplementation on improving physical performance in healthy subjects. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of long term consumption of acute L-carnitine L-tartarate [LCLT] on fat metabolism and aerobic capacity. A total of 28 healthy nonathlete male students received either L-carnitine L-tartarate or placebo [Lactose] for 3 weeks [3g orally, daily] in experimental and control groups. The subjects of both groups performed submaximal ergometery Astrand protocol on bicycle for 20 minutes before and after this supplementation period. Following each test, blood samples were drawn immediately to determine the concentrations of plasma free fatty acid [FFA], triglyceride [TG] and other metabolites. Resting and submaximal heart rates were monitored. The collected data of pre and post tests were evaluated by SPSS 13.0 software in the both groups. No significant differences in FFA, TG and resting and exercise heart rates were found between pre and post tests in the both experimental and control groups.Three weeks LCLT supplementation has no effect on fat metabolism and aerobic capacity. Also, chronic intake of LCLT has no effect on substrate utilization or endurance performance in healthy individuals

RESUMO

Thalassemia is a type of genetic disease that is classified in the group of heritable anemia. Due to anemia hemoglobin level decreases and blood transfusion is used to composed that finally results in excessive iron content. In order to eliminate the excessive iron, Desfral is prescribed. The excessive iron creates undesirable complications on liver, heart and endocrine glands tissues. The most important complication in the patients suffering from thalassemia is restrictive cardiomyopathy and rhythm disorders and cardiac blockage insufficiency. Determination of the effect of aerobic rehabilitation program on density of Ferritin, Iron, TIBC and cardiovascular operation in the young adult patients with major thalassemia. This research performed in semi experimental method on 15 patients 10 to 16 yearsold suffering from thalassemia with history of 9 to 15 years were studied in a 50- individual population. Research process for these patients was performed in three sections of pretest, during test and posttest. Research data were analyzed with correlation method and X[2] test. Average blood ferritin after first sport test and an eight-week aerobic program was decreased considerably as compared with rest [P<0.05] and blood iron after sport test and after aerobic practices as compared with rest time showed significant decreased [P<0.05]. In heart beat frequency domain in the duration of rest after aerobic practices, progressive decrease was observed [P<0.05]. The effective aerobic rehabilitation program in patients with major thalasemia should be managed based on medical examination and balk sport test. Despite of the creasing aeron and ferritin load, it can cause a freshness mentality during blood transfusion and desferal administration physical practices in the safe physiologic domain, the harmful effect of excessive iron on heart decreases and therefore their cardiovascular operation improves

RESUMO

Physical or cardio-respiratory fitness are of the best important physiological variables in children with cerebral palsy [CP], but the researches on exercise response of individuals with CP are limited. Our aim was to determine the effect of sub-maximal rehabilitation program [aerobic exercise] on maximal oxygen uptake, oxygen pulse and cardiorespiratory physiological variables of children with moderate to severe spastic cerebral palsy diplegia and compare with able-bodied children. In a controlled clinical trial study, 15 children with diplegia spastic cerebral palsy, were recruited on a voluntarily basis [experimental group] and 18 subjects without neurological impairments selected as control group. In CP group, aerobic exercise program performed on the average of exercise intensity [144 beat per minute of heart rate], 3 times a week for 3 months. The time of each exercise session was 20-25 minutes. Dependent variables were measured in before [pretest] and after [post test] of rehabilitation program through Mac Master Protocol on Tantories cycle ergometer in CP group and compared with the control group. The oxygen pulse [VO[2]/HR] during ergometery protocol was significantly lower in CP group than normal group [P<0.05]. No significant statistical difference in maximal oxygen uptake [VO[2] max] was found between groups. The rehabilitation program leads to little increase of this variable in CP group. After sub-maximal exercise in pretest and post test, the heart rate of patient group was greater than control group, and aerobic exercise leads to significant decrease in heart rate in CP patients[P<0.05]. The patients with spastic cerebral palsy, because of high muscle tone, severe spasticity and involuntarily movements have higher energy cost and lower aerobic fitness than normal people. The rehabilitation exercise program can improve physiological function of muscle and cardio-respiratory endurance in these patients

RESUMO

Pendred's syndrome is defined as a triad of congenital perceptive hearing loss, goiter, and abnormal perchiorate test. Three brothers with Pendred's syndrome [P.S] are reported. The oldest brother has hearing loss [he has been deaf and mute since childhood] and has a large goiter. A thyroid scan revealed euthyroid multinodular goiter and a perchlorate test was performed, and reported abnormal. His brother had the same manifestations but with less severity and after subtotal thyroidectomy, the pathology report revealed follicular carcinoma. The youngest brother had hearing loss since childhood but a normal sized thyroid. We report three patients and compare the frequency of their symptoms with that reported in the literature
