RESUMO

In our country, the Wright test routinely is used for diagnosing brucellosis. Because of its low sensitivity, the range of false-negative results is high. Therefore, we aimed at comparing Wright and ELISA in the people suspected brucellosis. The results of Wright, 2MB, Coombs Wright tests were compared with Anti-Brucella IgG, Anti-Brucella IgM. Of 1183 subjects referred for Wright test, 148 of them were investigated for Coombs Wright and 228 for 2MB Wright. In addition to Wright test for 32 cases, Brucella IgG and IgM classes were also experimented. Wright test was negative in 95.4% of cases. Of these negative results, 2.3% were positive for Coombs Wright. Eight-point-five percent of the cases were positive for Coombs Wright test and 4.7% for 2MB Wright test. Sixteen cases were negative for both Wright and ELISA. In 8 cases of Wright-negative, ELISA IgM class was positive and IgG class was negative, and in 4 cases of Wright-negative, ELISA IgM was negative and IgG was positive. About 4 cases of Wright-positive, IgM and IgG antibody classes were positive. Due to the mismatch between the results of Wright agglutination test and ELISA method and with regard to availability, high sensitivity and determining the type of antibody classes in ELISA, it is focused on ELISA method for brucellosis diagnosis

RESUMO

Introduction: Regular physical activity is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between pros, cons and self-efficacy with stages of change for exercise behavior in employees of Abu Musa Island

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, through cluster sampling,119 employees in of fices on Abu Musa Island were selected. Data of pros, cons and self-efficacy were collected using Physical activity staging, Exercise Benefits/Barriers scale and Exercise self-efficacy scale and were analyzed using the SPSS16

Results: According to the results, 16.8% of employees were in the pre-contemplation stage,10% in the contemplation stage, 31.1% in preparation stage, 13.4% in action stage and 28.7% in the maintenance stage. There was a significant association between pros and cons and regular physical activity [p<0.01]

Conclusion: In order to change physicala ctivity behavior and achieve the stages of action and maintenance; designing and implementation of appropriate training programs about the benefits of exercise and eliminating the barriers is recommended

RESUMO

Introduction: Since Health Information Seeking Behavior [HISB] is a psychological phenomenon like every other human behavior, it seems that personal characteristics of patients affect this behavior. On the other hand, appropriate health information seeking behavior can fasten disease healing presses or their prevention. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of personal factors HISB of diabetic patients in Isfahan

Methods: A survey method was used in this research. The statistical population consisted of 6426 diabetic patients from whom 362 patients were selected by a no percentage stratified random sampling. The Longo information seeking behavior questionnaire was used to collect data and SPSS 20 were used for analyzing collected data

Results: Independent T- test showed that there was a statistically significant difference between behavior factor in information seeking process of men and women [p< 0.001]. Moreover, Spearman correlation index showed that HISB factors were directly related to educational level. This test also showed that there was a direct relationship between income and some information seeking factors. Pearson correlation index showed that there was an inverse relationship between age and most information seeking factors

Conclusion: Passive methods should be used in transferring health information to diabetic men, and more time and energy should be consumed in transferring information to old diabetic patients with low income and low educational level. Hence, by studying factors influencing health information seeking behaviors of diabetic patients, their required information can be transferred to them more efficiently leading to prevention of diabetes

RESUMO

Pregnancy and accelerated fetal growth always are related with major metabolic changes and body fat redistribution and adiponectin is one of principle adipocyte hormones, so studying adiponectin changes during pregnancy may reveal some hidden parts of fetal metabolism. The aim of this study was to assess adiponectin and leptin levels in umbilical cord and maternal serum, their relation with each other and with neonatal weight, birth length and other fetal growth markers. The study was carried out with 72 appropriate for age newborns [36 female, 36 male] and their mothers. The anthropometric variables of the newborns studied were birth weight, birth length, and birth weight/birth length and ponderal index. Maternal and umbilical cord adiponectin and leptin levels were measured by ELISA and compared. The median of cord blood adiponectin concentration were 3 fold higher than those of maternal group. Umbilical cord blood leptin levels were significantly correlated with neonatal birth weight and birth weight/ birth length [r= 0.29, P=0.01 and r= 0.24, P= 0.04, respectively]. No statistical difference has been demonstrated between both groups of male and female neonates regarding birth weight, birth length, maternal and neonatal leptin levels, ponderal index and maternal and neonatal adiponectin levels. Neonatal leptin is related to birth weight. Adiponectin has no relation with birth weight. Neither leptin nor adi-ponectin correlated with gender difference

RESUMO

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii. The migration of the parasite in blood as well as some organs like liver may cause some changes in physiological and biochemical indices in infected individuals. These may change the level of some indices like urea, total bilirubin, total protein, and albumin. The present investigation was conducted to study alteration of some liver functional indices of rats which were experimentally infected with Toxoplasma gondii. 80 non-infected rats and 60 non-infected mice were selected. Rats were divided into two groups of 60 test and 20 control rats. The test group was infected intraperitoneally with 5xl0[4] tachyzoites. Every 3 days for 60 days, three rats from test group and one rat from control group were bled. Standard techniques were used for urea, bilirubin, total protein and albumin tests. In addition, the livers of infected rats were searched biologically for presence of the parasite using intrapritoneal injection in mice method. The results indicated that, Toxoplasma cyst was present in the liver of infected rats within 6 to 27 days post infection. The parasite disappeared in liver after 28 days of infection. Biochemical results indicated that, urea from 6[th] to 60[th] day, total bilirubin from 6[th] to 27[th] day, albumin and total protein from 6[th] to 12[th] day post infection were increased but decreased to normal values afterward. Generally, temporary alteration of some biochemical indices during experimental infection of rat with toxoplasmosis may occur. The alteration mainly is due to the parasite migration to various tissues of the animal and it shifts to the normal condition following cyst formation in brain or muscles

RESUMO

A total of 320 serum samples of pregnant women from Shiraz was tested by indirect fluorescent antibody technique for Toxoplasma antibodies of which 77.2% were positive. The highest antibody liters were observed in women over 41 years of age. The sectors with the highest standards of living showed the lowest percentage of infection
