RESUMO

Steroid cell tumor is one of the rare ovarian tumors and forms 0.1% of all ovarian tumors, divided to three subgroups. Steroid cell tumor that are not otherwise specified [NOS] are the most common type and represent 60% of steroid cell tumors. One of the most known signs of this tumor is hormonal function, especially androgenic effects of it. Primary treatment consists of eradication of tumor via surgery. The patient is a 29 years old female with history of poly cystic ovarian syndrome since 10 years ago, who attended to the clinic of General Women Hospital of Tehran in January 2011. In pelvic ultrasonography, there was a 64x49 mm mass in the right adnexa consisting of homogeneous component. She underwent laparotomy and unilateral salpingoophorectomy was done. Pathological report was steroid cell tumor of ovary. The aim of this study is reporting one of the rare tumors of ovary and assessment of the correct way of diagnosis and treatment of it

RESUMO

In recent years, humman papilomaviruses [HPV] infection is the most common type of sexual trasmitted diseases [STD] in majority of countries. It's a significant source of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In this study, we aimed to compare the history of reproductive disease between two groups of Iranian women with and without HPV infection through colposcopy precedure. This case - control study included 210 women reffered to a training gynecology hospital of Tehran University of Medical Science in Tehran. Case group was composed of 70 women with diagnosis of HPV infection, while control group was composed of 140 women with no sign of mentioned-infectious diseases of the control group. Reproductive history was prepared using the standard questionnaire, and obtianed data were analized by SPSS 20. Our findings showed that the risk factors for HPV infection were as follows: low parity [p = 0.000], reduction of number of weekly sexual intercourse [p = 0.000], no consumption of oral contraceptive pill [OCP] [p = 0.006], and history of withdrawal contraceptive method [p = 0.001]. Improvement of our knowledge about reproductive factors associated with HPV may help us to identify women at risk and to develope different methods of preventive interventions

RESUMO

Placenta increta, a rare complication of pregnancy, is associated with significant postpartum hemorrhage often requiring emergency hysterectomy. We report a case of conservative management, with a combination of parenteral methotrexate, serial ultrasound and beta-hCG assessment. Serum beta-hCG levels were undetectable after 8 weeks of therapy. A scan at 6 months showed complete involution of the uterus. Review of the literature discussing the diagnostic tools, clinical features, management and outcome of pregnancies with placenta increta

RESUMO

Human papillomavirus [HPV] is associated with various benign and malignant lesions including genital condyloma and anogenital cancer. The presence of HPV-DNA was studied in archival biopsies of high- and intermediate-risk lesions for cervical carcinoma in women referred to Mirza hospital in Tehran. Totally, 105 Iranian archived biopsies collected during February and November 2006. HPV-DNA was isolated from the biopsies and detected by means of consensus polymerase chain reaction [PCR] detecting a broad spectrum of genital HPV types. Totally, 26 samples [24.7%] were positive for oncogenic HPV-DNA. Risk of HPV infection was significantly higher in biopsies obtained from patients with confirmed squamous cell carcinoma [SCC] who started sexual activity more recently [/= 10 years ago]. HPV-16 was more frequently detected in biopsies of younger women. HPV was more frequently detected in young women. Our data confirm the usefulness of this method for detection of HPV in archival biopsies
