RESUMO

Distinction of hydatidiform moles [HMs] from non-molar abortions and sub-classification of HMs are important for clinical practice; yet, diagnosis based solely on morphology is affected by interobserver variability. The objective of this study was to determine the role of DNA flow cytometry in distinguishing molar from non-molar pregnancies. This retrospective study was conducted at the Department of Pathology, Women's Hospital, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran, between 2006 and 2010. DNA ploidy analysis and histopathologic re-evaluation were performed on paraffin-embedded tissue from 36 [17 complete and 19 partial] molar and 24 hydropic abortus [HA] cases which were previously diagnosed based on histomor-phologic study. Of the 17 cases initially diagnosed as complete HM [CHM], 9 were dip-loid, 2 were triploid, 5 were tetraploid and 1 was aneuploid. Of the 19 initial partial HMs [PHMs], 2, 8, 1 and 8 cases were diploid, triploid, tetraploid and aneuploid, respectively. In the initial HA category [n=24], 14 diploid, 1 triploid, 5 tetraploid, and 4 aneuploid cases existed. Following flow cytometry and histopathologic re-evaluation, 1 case with previous diagnosis of HA was reclassified as PHM, 2 initial PHMs were reclassified as CHM and 2 initial CHMs were categorized as PHM. The results show that correct diagnosis of PMH is the main challenge in histological diagnosis of gestational trophoblastic disease [GTD]. DNA flow cytometric analysis could be an informative supplement to the histological interpretation of molar and hydropic placentas

RESUMO

Introduction: Identification of the styles of behavior management as related to job attitudes and satisfaction level of management has been among the topics of interest in the past few decades. This study aimed to examine the leadership styles of managers [heads] and its correlation with job satisfaction among university employees

Methods: The study population included all employees working at Shiraz University. A sample of 107 subjects as the manager [head] who had their position for two consecutive years was randomly selected from each set of three. To review and assess the transformative interactionism managers, Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire [MLQ] designed by Boss and Vlyv [1995] was used. A questionnaire was used to assess the level of job satisfaction. Content validity and reliability of the method was assessed by calculating the reliability coefficient [Cronbach's alpha]. The alpha for job satisfaction was obtained 0.79

Results: The results showed that the correlations between job satisfaction and leadership style [R=0.58], transformational leadership style [R=0.58] and the transactional leadership style [R=0.46] were significant [p<0.001]. The results of this study indicated that leadership style can be used as a facilitator which motivates the direct and indirect impact on job satisfaction

Conclusion: People's values influence the way they manage and especially determines their satisfaction about the organization. The concepts of transformational leadership styles of managers, their gender and level of mental stimulation showed the greatest effect on job satisfaction

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Estrogen plays a fundamental role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Very few studies have shown the association between estrogen receptor alpha (ERalpha), PvuII and XbaI gene polymorphisms with T2DM in both men and women. We evaluated the hypothesis that PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms of ERalpha gene may be associated with T2DM in adult. METHODS: From spring of 2010 to the fall of 2011, a case-control study was performed at clinical centers of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. We included 174 patients with T2DM including men and women and 174 age, sex, and body mass index frequency-matched health controls. We analyzed the PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms of ERalpha by using the polymerase chain reaction-based restriction fragment length polymorphism method. RESULTS: No significant differences between demographic characteristics of control and patients groups were observed. Allele frequencies of both PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms were significantly different between patients and control subjects (P=0.014 vs. P=0.002, respectively). When the group was separated into women and men, logistic regression analysis of genotype distribution of PvuII (pp vs. Pp+PP) in both sexes revealed that there was no significant association of PvuII genotype with men (odds ratio [OR], 1.67; confidence interval [CI], 0.86 to 3.28; P=0.89) and women (OR, 0.96; CI, 0.53 to 1.74; P=0.12). CONCLUSION: PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms in ERalpha are related with T2DM in the inpatient population.

RESUMO

Human Hydatid cyst is a wide spread disease. Its an endemic disease in Iran. It's caused by Echinococcus granulosus. Hydatid cyst although known to occur in most organs and body areas, is extremely rare in the female reproductive organs. This is a case report of ovarian Hydatid cyst in a 42-year-old woman. She presented with feeling of enlargement of abdomen and abdominal pain. On physical examination, a large mass in lower abdomen palpated. On imaging study, ultrasonography reported a large heterogeneous multicystic mass measuring 155 97 mm in pelvic cavity and hypo gastric area. The CT-scan with IV contrast reported a huge cystic lesion, containing multiple septi in pelvic cavity that could be due to ovarian lesion. After surgical procedure, histopathological examination showed typical laminated and germinative layers with hexagonal scolecies of Hydatid cyst. Since the common sites of hydaid cyst are liver and lung and the imaging studies are highly diagnostic for Hydatid cysts, this illustrated case is interesting for uncommon site, not suggested by imaging studies and with clinical [surgical] impression of malignant ovarian tumor
