RESUMO

To determine the functional disability in Activities of Daily living [ADLs] and Instrumental activities of Daily Living [IADLs] among elderly El-Mahsama village and identify associated factors, which may be related to them. Design: Cross-sectional descriptive study among elders attending primary health care.Setting: El- Mahsama village, a rural area of Ismailia Governorate. Study population: Two hundred and seventy six elderly 60 years and older study method: structured inter view and assessment scols for cliability in activities of daily living Two Hundred and Seventy Six participants were aged 60 years and older [44.2% of male and 55.8% female], most of them were 60-69 years old. More than 50% were married, and about 75.4% were illiterate. Of the study population, 38.4% were found to have functional limitation, while 61.6% were without affection of their activities of daily living. It was found that about 48.2% of the elerly population perceives their health as good while 25.4% and hypertension and 19.2% had Diabetes Mellitus. This study provides evidence that the disabilities in activities in activities of daily living, eating patterns disorders, weight changes and sleeping disorders among elderly is very important issues. In addition to that, it provides evidence that there is association between age and functional limitation and other demographic characteristics. Also it shows how much elderly people perceive their health and how much they satisfied with health services
