RESUMO

To report a case of congenital pelvic arteriovenous malformation [pAVM] with urinary retention. A 39-year-old male patient presented with inability to void urine for 8 h. He did not have a history of dysuria or fever, but had increasing urinary frequency and difficulty in voiding over 2 years. Examination revealed a suprapubic mass without external signs of vascular anomaly. A huge, soft, irregular, non-pulsating mass was felt rectally. This mass did not disappear on urinary bladder decompression. Subsequent ultrasound and CT scan revealed pAVMs filling most of the pelvic cavity. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a male patient with congenital pAVM presenting with urinary retention, emphasizing the need for a high index of suspicion for pAVM to avoid potential severe bleeding during suprapubic catheterization for urinary drainage

RESUMO

Placenta previa percreta with the urinary bladder invasion is a rare but potentially lethal condition. It has an increasing clinical significance due to its association with previous cesarean sections and uterine curettage. Herein, we report on a patient with placenta percreta and bladder invasion, who presented with hematuria and in whom delivery was delayed to almost full term highlighting the potential catastrophic results and the need for a multidisciplinary approach with the need to involve surgeons who are familiar with vascular and urologic surgery. We also present an elegant MRI of placenta percreta invading the urinary bladder, which shows that MRI is potentially an excellent diagnostic modality in this difficult condition

RESUMO

Genital self-mutilation, whether partial or complete, is a rare condition, which usually occurs in psychotic patients and occasionally has a religious background. The initial management of complete genital self-mutilation usually involves a formation of perineal urethrostomy or a more complex procedure to form a short penile stump. Here, we present a case of complete genital self-mutilation in a psychotic male who was managed with simple urethral spatulation to form an anterior urethrostomy

RESUMO

Neonatal infravesical obstruction in females is less common than in boys and rarely reported. In this article, we report on 3 cases of infravesical obstruction in female neonates with different etiologies. We also reviewed the literature on this topic. Including our cases, 17 cases of neonatal infravesical obstruction in girls have been reported. Neonatal infravesical obstruction in females has different underlying pathology compared to boys with congenital tumors being more common in girls. A high index of suspicion is essential for early recognition and management

RESUMO

A virgin girl presented with acute urinary retention due to uterus bicornis associated with unilateral hematocolpos and ipsilateral renal agenesis. This is the third case to be reported in the literature. The management, which can be very challenging in societies which consider virginity essential in girls, is briefly discussed
