RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the clinical features and medication of unilateral idiopathic vocal fold paralysis.@*METHOD@#Thirty-nine of medical treated patients with unilateral idiopathic vocal fold paralysis were retrospectively studied, and relevant literatures were reviewed.@*RESULT@#After 4 to 19 days of medical therapy, 9 patients were cured, the vocal fold movement of 18 sufferers were improved, and 12 pantients were not healed.@*CONCLUSION@#Unilateral idiopathic vocal fold paralysis is common, and the treatment efficacy of medicine is almost the same with others. Unilateral idiopathic vocal fold paralysis is a disease with spontaneous recovery, which should be followed up.

RESUMO

According to the 'hygiene hypothesis', the intestinal microbes would not only regulate local immune status, but also affect systematic immune homeostasis, which may play an important role in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases. This review will mainly focus on investigating the intricate relationships among intestinal microbes, immune system and allergic diseases. Multiple factors affecting gut microorganisms may influence the immune homeostasis directly and later become risk factors of allergic diseases. This point of view may pave the way for the design of new interventions to the diseases.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To analyze the clinical features and treatment of tuberculous otitis media and mastoiditis.@*METHOD@#Thirteen patients with tuberculous otitis media and mastoiditis were retrospectively analyzed and the related literatures were reviewed. One case was treated by surgery only, and anti-tuberculosis treatment was given to another one patient, and surgical removal of disease lesions in combination with anti-tuberculosis treatment were given to 12 patients.@*RESULT@#One patient received surgery only was found to recur after follow-up for seven months. The patient did not recur after seven months' follow-up after antituberculosis therapy, and other patients did not recur.@*CONCLUSION@#Although the regular anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy treatment was the main treatment for tuberculous otitis and mastoiditis, surgical treatment was helpful to achieved more rapid healing of the ear.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma in the head and neck.@*METHOD@#The clinical data of four cases of extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma was analysed and relevant literatures were reviewed.@*RESULT@#Two cases originated from the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, the other two cases originated from the oral pharynx and skin respectively. The tumors were all diagnosed via histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Two cases were treated by combined modality therapy and did not recur or metastasize after follow-up for 7 months and 7 years respectively. Another one was treated by surgery and died after 6 months of follow-up. The remaining one was treated by chemotherapy and died with metastasis during the period of therapy.@*CONCLUSION@#The extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma, which is rare arising from the head and neck, has non-specific clinical manifestation and difficulty in early diagnosis. The disease can be effectively treated by combined therapy, but the high recurrent and metastatic rates usually result in poor prognosis.

RESUMO

The clinical and pathological data of eight cases of nasal solitary keratoacanthoma were analyzed and relevant literatures were reviewed. All of the cases were verified via pathological examination after local lesion excision, along with reconstruction of tissue defects in external nose. The patients were all primary healed. With a follow up from 8 months up to 7 years, only one case relapsed one year after first surgery, and given another operation, no recurrence happened thereafter. The other seven cases did not recur so far. The nasal solitary keratoacanthoma is a squamous tumor with potential malignancy, which manifests similarly with squamous cell carcinoma, and the correct diagnosis requires comprehensive judgment from both the clinical and histopathological characteristics. The disease shows favorable prognosis and low recurrence rate.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the expression of interleukin-17 and the infiltration of eosinophilic cells in nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis, and investigate the roles of IL-17 and eosinophils in the etiology of nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis.@*METHOD@#A study was conducted on 21 patients of nasal polyps, 18 ones of allergic rhinitis and 12 normal individuals. Immunohistochemical stain with the rabbit monoclonal antibodies of IL-17 was carried out. The eosinophilic cells infiltrated in different tissues were stained with HE, then counted under high power filed. The data was analyzed with ANOVA of SPSS12.0 software.@*RESULT@#Many IL-17 stained cells were found in the samples of nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis, which were significantly higher than those in normal individuals (P < 0.05). Positive cell number in tissues of allergic rhinitis was similar to that in nasal polyps, but higher than in normal individuals. As for HE staining, there was no significant deviation of numbers of eosinophilic cell in tissue between allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps, while which differed from the normal ones (P < 0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#1. IL-17 is a newly cytokine which expressed in mucosa of allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps tissue. It indicates the degree of immunological reaction and inflammatory reaction, and can be used as an index to research the mechanism of nasal polyps as well as allergic rhinitis. 2. The eosinophilic cells count was correlated with the amount of IL-17 positive cells in nasal polyps and with allergic rhinitis correlation coefficients were R = 0. 606 (P < 0 01)and R = 0.446 (P < 0.05) respectively. It seems that eosinophils, which are regulated by IL-17, play an important roles in the development of nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis.
