RESUMO

Pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (PEH) is a rare vascular tumor of borderline or low-grade malignancy, and its prognosis is unpredictable. Herein, we describe the case of a 47-year-old asymptomatic female with a diagnosis of multinodular PEH. During a 7-year followup, the nodules with large size and high 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in the initial study showed progression with increasing sizes; however, most small nodules (size < 1 cm) demonstrated spontaneous regression with peripheral rim or nodular calcification. The patient underwent surgical resection for an enlarged nodule. Of note, it is unusual for an individual to have mixed progression and regression concomitantly, which may be helpful in predicting the prognosis.

RESUMO

Intraluminal duodenal diverticulum (IDD) is a rare congenital abnormality, consisting of a sac-like mucosal lesion in the duodenum. Cases of IDD can present with gastrointestinal bleeding, duodenal obstruction, or pancreatitis. Here, we report a rare case of a 25-year-old female presenting with IDD complicated by duodeno-duodenal intussusception and recurrent pancreatitis. The diagnosis was based on findings from radiologic examinations (CT and MRI), upper gastrointestinal series (barium swallow), and gastroduodenofiberscopy. Laparoscopic excision of the presumed duodenal duplication was performed. The subsequent histopathologic evaluation of the excised sac revealed normal mucosa on both sides, but the absence of a proper muscle layer confirmed the diagnosis of IDD. Radiologic detection of a saccular structure in the second portion of the duodenum can indicate IDD with duodeno-duodenal intussusception as the lead point

RESUMO

We evaluated the distribution of normal conjuctival flora and the change of antibiotic sensitivity of cultured bacteria. Specimens were obtained from inferior conjunctiva cul de sac with sterile cotton-tipped applicator from healthy 216 human beings. Antibiotic sensitivity test was done by disk diffusion method. The results indicated that overall positive culture rate was 47.7% and major organisms were Coagulase-negative Staphylococcus(55.7%), Staphylococcus aureus(16%), Gram negative bacteria(7.5%), Streptococcus(4.7%). Antibiotic sensitivity test of cultured Gram positive bacteria demonstrated less than 60% rate of susceptability in gentamicin, tetracyclin, erythromycin and 80.5% rate of susceptability in ciprofloxacin. Gram negative bacteria demonstrated less than 60% rate of susceptability in cephalothin, ampicillin. From the above results, we concluded that antibiotic resistance of normal conjunctival flora was increased from the past and the principle of antiviotic eye drop use should be emphasized.

RESUMO

Traumatic aniridia is usually accompanied by severe anterior segment disruption including corneal laceration, cataract, and vitreous prolapse into the anterior chamber. We experienced a case of complete traumatic aniridia following corneal laceration without capsular rupture of lens, which has not been reported in Korea. A 28-year-old man had a corneal laceration of his right eye from a screw driver at work, which resulted in complete aniridia with only a remnant of ciliary process and UCVA was 0.08. Primary closure of corneal laceration was performed. During surgery, lens capsule was intact. Visual acuity was reduced 10 days after surgery as cataract developed. Although UCVA was 0.3 at 1 month postoperatively, he was symtomatic with glare due to aniridia.
