RESUMO

PURPOSE: To report the clinical effects of reverse ab externo scleral fixation with scleral penetration using a 10-0 prolene needle in patients with dislocation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL). METHODS: The ab externo scleral fixation technique uses a corneal tunnel and a loop of 10-0 propylene made by 2 consecutive scleral sutures to fix the haptic to the sclera. The reverse technique penetrates the sclera with a 10-0 prolene needle instead of a 26-gauge needle and introduces the 26-gauge needle into the corneal tunnel to pull the 10-0 prolene needle through, thus creating a loop around the haptic and fixing it to the sclera. Scleral fixation was performed on one haptic in 2 eyes and on both haptics in 3 eyes. RESULTS: The dislocated IOLs were successfully repositioned, and the corrected visual acuity was improved postoperatively in all 5 eyes. There was no specific complication except mild hyphema in 1 eye. CONCLUSIONS: Reversed ab externo scleral fixation is an easy and effective way to reposition dislocated PCIOLs and decrease the complication of hemorrhage and hypotony frequently associated with the standard ab externo technique.

RESUMO

The authors surveyed on 154 color deficient workers among 6,023 industrial workers that had undergone a physical examination at Soon Chun Hyang Gumi Hospital but had good visual acuity and no retinal disease. They were examined with 3 kinds of test including AO pseudoisochromatic plate, Ishihara's plate and Han's color vision test. So, results were obtained as follow; 1. AO pseudoisochromatic plate was used only as distinguishable method of existence of color defect. 2. With the Ishihara plate, frequencies as to types of defect were protanopia 19(12.3%), deuteranopia 71(46.1%), protanomaly and deuteranomaly 15(9.7%), and unclassified 48(31.2%). The most frequent type of color defect was deuteranopia. 3. With the Hahn's color vision test, frequencies as to types of defect were protan 33(21.4%), deutan 72(46.7%), and unclassified 48(31.2%). Also in this test, deutan was the most frequent type. 4. Extent of color defect by the Hahn's test was mild(Grade I) 38.3%, medium(Grade II) 23.4%, and strong(Grade III) 38.3%.

RESUMO

Conjunctival tuberculosis, a very rare disease, is thought to be a relatively rare cause of ocular diseases. This is because of a decreased incidence of tuberculosis as well as lessened emphasis on its diagnosis. We have experienced a 19-years old female who had a injection and hypertrophic granulomatous inflammation, on the left lower palpebral conjunctiva. We performed excisional biopsy under the clinical diagnosis of the chronic conjunctivitis and confirmed the histopathological diagnosis of conjunctival tuberculosis. So, the literature of the conjunctival tuberculosis was briefly reviewed with clinical history.
