RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo study the risk classification of animal plague in Spermophilus Dauricus Focus, using the Best Subsets Regression (BSR) model.

METHODSMatlab, BSR and exponential smoothing were employed to develop and evaluate a model for risk classification as well as to forecast plague epidemics at the Spermophilus Dauricus Focus. Data was based upon the Inner Mongolia surveillance programs. This model involved 7 risk factors, including density of Spermophilus dauricus, percentage of hosts infested, host flea index, percentage of nests infested, nest flea index, percentage of runways infested, and runway flea index.

RESULTSForecasting values of the classification model(CM)were calculated and grouped into 3 risk levels. Values that over 2/3 of the CM would indicate the existence of potential epidemics while those below 1/3 would indicate that there were no risk for epidemics but when values that were in between would indicate that there exist for high risk. Annually, during the observation period in the Inner Mongolia Spermophilus Dauricus Foci, the detection of Yersinia pestis gave a risk rating value of 1 which stood for existing epidemics, while nil detection rate generated a 'zero' value which representing the situation of non-epidemic. The overall plague epidemics forecasting surveillance programs in 2012 at the Spermophilus Dauricus Foci indicated that no active plague was observed. When the forecasting values became over 2/3, combinations of all the risk factors would achieve the consistency rates of 100%. When the forecasting values were below 1/3, combinations of at least the first 4 factors could also achieve the consistency rates of 100%. However, when the forecasting values fell in between, combinations of at least the first 4 factors would achieve the consistency rates of around 50%.

CONCLUSIONResults from our study showed that plague would not be active to become epidemic, in 2012.

RESUMO

ObjectiveTo study the efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) after liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with tumor thrombus in the main trunk and/or first branch of portal vein, and to clarify prognostic factors affecting survival. Methods From 2005 to 2009,there were 358 consecutive patients with HCC who underwent surgical resection in our Department. In 55 patients (15 %),portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) was found intraoperatively or postoperatively during histopathological examinations to involve the first portal branch, main portal trunk,or contralateral portal branch. In this retrospective study, these 55 patients were divided into two groups:Group A,29 patients received postoperative TACE,and Group B,26 patients who did not receive TACE.The clinical data and survivals were compared between the two groups.Prognostic factors were indentified using univariate analysis, followed by multivariate regression analysis using the Cox proportional hazards model.ResultsThere were no significant differences in the demographic clinical data between Group A and Group B.The overall 1-,2- and 3-year survivals for the 55 patients were 63.3 %,51.4 % and 43.5 %,respectively. The accumulative 1-,2- and 3-year survivals for group A were 71.4 %,60.1 % and 50.1 %,respectively. The corresponding figures for group B were 56.7%,21.7% and 10.4%,respectively.Multiple tumors, intrahepatic metastases, hepatic vein thrombus, and invasive type of tumor thrombus were found to be risk factors for short-term survival on univariate analysis, while the latter 3 factors were further found to be significant prognostic factors in the Cox proportional hazards model.Postoperative TACE was shown to be a significant factor in both univariate and multivariate analyses.ConclusionLiver resection was beneficial for some patients with portal vein tumor thrombus.Postoperative TACE further improved the prognosis and prolonged survivals in these patients.

RESUMO

Objective To discuss the presentations, pathologic features, diagnosis and treatment of primary synovial sarcoma of the kidney. Methods One case of primary synovial sarcoma of the kidney was reported and the relevant literature was reviewed. A 55-year-old man was admitted with complaint of right abdomen and flank pain for 5 h. Computerized tomography revealed a 12.5 cm × 11.0 cm × 9. 0 cm mass located at the middle and lower pole of the right kidney. The patient was taken radical nephrectomy. Results The diagnosis of primary synovial sarcoma of the kidney in the patient was confirmed by postoperative pathology. Under microscope, tumor was typically mitotically active, monomorphic spindle cells growing in intersecting fascicles or in solid sheets with epithelial differentiation. In some areas a haemangiopericytoma-like pattern was found. Immunohistochemical staining showed that the tumor cells were positive for the markers Vimentin, CD99 and Bcl-2, but CK was negative. The patient died of local recurrence and multi-metastasis at 8 months after surgery. Conclusions Primary synovial sarcoma of the kidney is extremely rare with a high grade of malignancy, and its prognosis is poor. The diagnosis depends on pathological features, Immunohistochemical studies and RT-PCR detection. Radical resection combined with chemicaltherapy is considered to be the most reliable treatment so far.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the effects of protein active composition of Scorpio on apoptosis of L1210 tumor cells for the purpose of establishing the quality evaluation method of biological effect of Scorpio. Methods L1210 cells were examined by trypan blue exclusion. The proliferation of cells was determined by improved MTT assay. Flow cytometry was performed to analyze cell apoptosis with propidium iodide (PI). Results When the concentration of protein active composition of Scorpio exceeded or equaled 37 mg/ml, the coefficient correlation of the growth inhibiting curve of L1210 cells was 0.9357, and IC50 was 175 mg/ml. The excellence time was 0 to 48 hours. When the concentration of protein active composition of Scorpio exceeded or equaled 9.25 mg/ml, the apoptosis ratio of L1210 cells was raised significantly. Conclusion The protein active composition of Scorpio might promote the apoptosis and restrain the proliferation of L1210 cells. The value of anti-tumor biological effect of the protein active composition of Scorpio was 9.25 ~ 175 mg/ml. This value may be one of the indexes for quality evaluation of biological effect of Scorpio.

RESUMO

Objective: To determine biological effect ratio (BER) on anti-herpes simplex virus-Ⅰ (HSV-Ⅰ)of Liyan Dan (LYD) complex pharmaceutics and its active components alignment (ACA), and to discuss the new identification method of Chinese patent medicine expressed by standard BER. Methods: Protective effect to cells infected by HSV-Ⅰ was evaluated by a 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2 thiazoyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The ACA was determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultraviolet spectrophotometry. By the protective percent (PP) to cells infected by HSV-Ⅰ of LYD and its ACA the BER was calculated. BERS= PPS / PPACA (protective percent to cells infected by HSV-Ⅰ of sample/protective percent to cells infected by HSV-Ⅰ of ACA; the concentration of sample was 2-x mg/mL). Results: LYD can inhibit cytopathogenic effect (CPE) and its BER was 1.16. Conclusion: BER and ACA of Chinese patent medicine can reflect connotation of Chinese patent medicine quality. This index described intrinsic quality of curative effect on Chinese materia medica. The new concepts of BER and ACA were pulled into the study. This research offered a new train of thought and method to study Chinese patent medicine quality as follows. Firstly, establish standard biological effect of ACA as a standard of effect; secondly, measure the biological effect of sample by the method of measuring effective standard of ACA; thirdly, calculate BER according to the formula (BERS=PPS/PPACA). Standard of BER on quality evaluation is as follows. If 1 ≥ BERS ≥ 0.9, the sample is eligible; if BERS>1, the sample is of high quality; if BERS<0.9, the sample is disqualification. This quality evaluation method is much more scientific than the method that evaluate quality only by one or two components contents.
