RESUMO

Background and purpose:A non-recurrent course is a rare anatomic variation of the recurrent laryngeal nerve, which is highly predisposed to injury in thyroidectomy. The study was to summarize preoperative judgment and injury prevention of non-recurrent laryngeal nerve (NRLN) during thyroidectomy. Methods:Preoperative diagnosis and precautions during thyroidectomy were investigated, clinical data from eleven cases of NRLN were analyzed and related literature was reviewed as well. Results:All eleven cases were NRLN of type 1. Among those, the right subclavian artery was found posteriorly to the trachea and esophagus shown by preoperative CT in seven cases. One case who had NRLN injury underwent nerve anastomosis. Conclusion:NRLN is a rare anatomical variation. Preoperative neck CT scan identifies presence of a NRLN, which may reduce the incidence of nerve injures by using intraoperative capsular dissection.

RESUMO

Objective curcumin can suppress the proliferation , induce apoptosis and partial differentiation , and inhibit the migration of many kinds of tumor cells .The aim of this study was to investigate the expressions of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPKs) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) when the proliferation of human multiple myeloma RPMI8226 cells was inhibited by curcumin in vitro, and to reveal the antitumor molecular mechanism of curcumin . Methods RPMI8226 cells were treated with various concentrations of curcumin for different periods of times .The inhibitory rate of curcumin on cell proliferation was detected by MTT assay , the cell cycle analyzed by flow cytometry , the protein levels of MAPKs measured by Western blot , and the activity of MMPs analyzed by Gelatin zymography . Results Curcumin inhibited the proliferation of RPMI 8226 cells in a time-and dose-dependent manner , and the cell cycle was arrested in the G 2/M phase ([12.72 ±0.68]%vs [4.79 ±0.15]%).The expressions of JNK and p-JNK showed a con-centration-dependent increase in the RPMI8226 cells treated with curcumin at 6.25, 12.50, and 25.00 μmol/L, respectively (P0.05).In addition, the activities of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were decreased in a dose-depend-ent manner in the supernatant of RPMI8226 cells ( P <0.01). Conclusion A certain concentration of curcumin could not only acti-vate the JNK signalling pathway of the MAPKs family and induce the apoptosis of RPMI8226 cells, but also inhibit the activity of MMPs and influence the invasion and metastasis of RPMI 8226 cells.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND:Cerebral vascular malformations are the leading cause of hemorrhagic apoplexy in young adults, and the rupture and bleeding of malformed vessels may cause severe neurological dysfunction. The mechanism of cerebral vascular malformations remains unclear. Modern molecular biology studies have shown that, angiogenic growth factors are abnormal y expressed in cerebral vascular malformations. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate differences in the expression of angiogenic growth factors in cerebral vascular malformations, and discuss the possible relationship between cerebral vascular malformations and angiogenic growth factors. METHODS:Fifty patients with cerebral vascular malformations and fifty patients with intracerebral hemorrhage were included in this study. The expressions of angiogenic growth factor (vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-α) in the cerebral vascular malformation specimens and the normal superficial temporal artery specimens were detected with immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In the normal superficial temporal artery of intracerebral hemorrhage patients, no expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-αwas found;in the vascular malformations, they were highly expressed (P<0.05). Compared with normal blood vessels, vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-αexpression was significantly increased in patients with cerebral vascular malformations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND:Adipose-derived stem cells are easily col ected and abundantly cultured, which can proliferate rapidly when being cultured in vitro. With multi-directional differentiation potential, adipose-derived stem cells are expected as seed cells for tissue engineering. OBJECTIVE:To isolate, culture and identify of adipose-derived stem cells from Sprague-Dawley rats in vitro. METHODS:The subcutaneous adipose tissue was obtained from the iliac region of rats under the aseptic condition, and then was digested with 0.075%type Ⅰ col agenase and cultured in vitro. The morphology and proliferation characteristics of the cells were observed under an inverted phase contrast microscope. The third passage was put into gauge for growth curve by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, and the cells were also identified by CD44, a stem cellmarker, with immunofluorescence staining. Adipose-derived stem cells were induced and differentiated into adipocytes in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium/Ham’s nutrient mixture F-12 containing 10%fetal bovine serum, dexamethasone and insulin, and then the cells were identified with oil red“O”staining. Adipose-derived stem cells were induced and differentiated into neural cells, and then the cells were identified with immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The growth curve of adipose-derived stem cells was opposite-like“S”shape, and it strongly expressed CD44 that can designate a stem cell. The passage cells were exposed to a defined medium for adipocyte differentiation, and then could be stained with oil red. After being induced and differentiated into nerve cells, the cells expressed neuron-specific enolase. The adipose-derived stem cells of Sprague-Dawley rats are characterized by easy isolation, culture and proliferation in vitro, expressing related phenotypes of mesenchymal stem cells, as wel as induction and differentiation under certain conditions.

RESUMO

Objective To discuss the clinical characteristics of Hashimoto's thyroiditis accompanying with thyroid cancer. Methods Clinical data of 98 cases Hashimoto's thyroiditis accompanying with thyroid cancer were retrospectively reviewed. Results 2 cases underwent lateral thyroid lobectomy and isthmus resection. 58 cases underwent bilateral thyroid lobectomy. 35 cases underwent central lymph node dissection, with 15 cases of lymph node positive. 3 cases underwent modified radical dissection of cervical lymph nodes and all of them were proved to be lymph node positive. Metastasis rate is 25.0% and 52. 2% respectively for tumors whose diameter was less than 1 cm and greater than 1 cm. The difference has no statistic significance. Conclusions Hashimoto's thyroiditis usually accompany with thyroid papillary carcinoma and cervical lymph node metastasis can occur even if it's microcarcinoma. Lymph node metastasis rate increases with increasement of the tumor's diameter. Total thyroidectomy should be performed for Hashimoto's thyroiditis concomitant with thyroid cancer. And if necessary, lymph node dissection should be extended to the central region and lateral neck area.

RESUMO

Abstract Poly-l-lactide/beta-tricalcium phosphate (PLLA/betaTCP) composite was obtained by combining ground beta-TCP with PLLA, and absorbable rods were prepared by injection moulding. Degradations of the rods were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), mass loss, molecular weight and bending strength changes. At the beginning of in vivo degradation of the rods, the molecular weight of PLLA decreases sharply with the less mass losses of the rods. As in vivo degradation progress, the surfaces of the rods changed roughly, while micropores and fine groove were observed in the inner part of the rods. The bending strength of composite rods decreased from 151 MPa to 106 MPa after in vivo degradation of 12 weeks. Tissue test reveal that PLLA/beta-TCP composite has good tissue compatibility compared with PLLA.
