[Distribution of cardiovascular risk factors in coronary patients in Sahel Tunisia]

We evaluated cardiovascular risk factors and their association in patients in Sahel, hospitalized for coronary disease over the period 1994-1998. The clinical features of 3455 patients [72.4% men, 1741 with myocardial infarction, 1714 with unstable angina] were analysed on hospital admission. The prevalence of smoking, dyslipidaemia, hypertension, diabetes and obesity was 77.4%, 39.4%, 28.5%, 42.5% and 25.1% respectively in men and 2.9%, 43.7%, 59.2%, 56.6% and 31.9% respectively in women. With this risk factor profile a national strategy of primary prevention and heart health promotion is needed in Tunisia

Unilateral antrochoanal polyps with bilateral nasal obstruction

Antrochoanal polyps is a unilateral and benign tumor of the maxillary sinus occuring in children and young adults. We report four cases of antrochoanal polyps with posterieur extension to the nasopharynx, diagnose by endoscopy and comuted tomography. Three patients complained of dyspnea and one suffering from snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea. Treatment involved endoscopic sinus surgery. The postoperative results have been satisfactory

Comparative study of desflurane, isoflurane and halothane [as a part of Blanced Anaesthesia] for ambulatory anaesthesia

This study was done on 60 adult patients of both sexes between 18-45 years old undergoing ambulatory surgery. All of them were ASA I and II and categorized into three groups, each including 20 patients: Group I maintained on halothane, group II maintained on isoflurane and group III maintained on desflurane. Using bispectral index [BIS], all maintenance drugs were titrated to keep BIS monitor value around 40-60. The vital signs measured were heart rate and MAP with no statistically significant difference between the three groups. The modified Aldrete score showed significantly high scores for desflurane group as compared with the other two groups. As regard to the post- anesthesia discharge scoring system [PADSS] and time to home discharge, there were no statistical significant differences between all groups

Pytcchemic analysis of the aerial part of thalictrum isopyroides

Isolation and identification of six alkaloids from the aerial part of Thalictrum isopyroides were described. The isolated compounds were benzylisoquinoline, tembetarine, aporphines, thaliporphine and magnoflorine, dehydroaporphine, dehydroocotiene, oxoaporphine, thalicminine and bisbenzylisoquinoline, thalisopidine
