RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games was the second Games held amid the COVID-19 pandemic. To a certain extent, it has altered the way sporting activities operate. There is a lack of knowledge on injury risk and illness occurrence in elite winter sport athletes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to describe the incidence of injuries and illnesses sustained during the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in Beijing from February 4 to 20, 2022. METHODS: We recorded the daily number of injuries and illnesses among athletes reported by Beijing 2022 medical staff in the polyclinic, medical venues, and ambulance. We calculated injury and illness incidence as the number of injuries or illnesses occurring during competition or training, respectively, with incidence presented as injuries/illnesses per 100 athlete-days. RESULTS: In total, 2,897 athletes from 91 nations experienced injury or illness. Beijing 2022 medical staff reported 326 injuries and 80 illnesses, equaling 11.3 injuries and 2.8 illnesses per 100 athletes over the 17-day period. Altogether, 11% of the athletes incurred at least one injury and nearly 3% incurred at least one illness. The number of injured athletes was highest in the skating sports (n=104), followed by alpine skiing (n=53), ice track (n=37), freestyle skiing (n=36), and ice hockey (n=35), and was the lowest in the Nordic skiing disciplines (n=20). Of the 326 injuries, 14 (4.3%) led to an estimated absence from training or competition of more than 1 week. A total of 52 injured athletes were transferred to hospitals for further care. The number of athletes with illness (n=80) was the highest for skating (n=33) and Nordic skiing (n=22). A total of 50 illnesses (62.5%) were admitted to the department of dentistry/ophthalmology/otolaryngology, and the most common cause of illness was other causes, including preexisting illness and medicine (n=52, 65%). CONCLUSION: Overall, 11% of athletes incurred at least one injury during the Games, which is similar to the findings during the Olympic Winter Games in 2014 and 2018. Regarding illness, 2% of athletes were affected, which is approximately one-third of the number affected in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
RESUMO
【Objective】 To confirm the role of Wnt signaling pathway in the occurrence and development of gastric cancer (GC), establish a prognostic model composed of Wnt pathway related genes, and then evaluate the predictive value of the model. 【Methods】 We downloaded the gene expression data and survival data of GC in TCGA database, and used GSEA enrichment analysis to verify the enrichment of Wnt pathway in GC and para-cancer samples. In this study, univariable COX regression analysis and survival curve analysis were used to select the prognosis-related genes of GC. Then the multivariate COX proportional hazard regression model was used to obtain the prognostic model of Wnt signaling pathway related genes. Then, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and forest plot were used to verify the clinical predictive value of the model. The model was then validated in GEO external database. Finally, by utilizing quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR), we detected the expressions of Wnt signaling pathway related genes in 8 pairs of clinical GC and para-cancer samples. 【Results】 We downloaded 32 samples of normal para-cancer samples and 375 cancer samples and their corresponding clinical data. GSEA enrichment showed that compared with normal samples, Wnt pathway was significantly enriched in GC samples (P<0.05). The results of univariate COX analysis showed that 13 Wnt pathway genes were closely related to the prognosis of GC patients. Multivariate COX determined that the model was multiplied and accumulated by ETV2, SERPINE1, CPZ, VPS35 and IGFBP1 and their corresponding coefficient β. The survival curve and ROC curve showed that the model could accurately predict the prognosis of GC patients, and the 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year areas under the curve (AUC) were 68.0%, 69.4% and 78.5%, respectively. Clinical univariate and multivariate COX analyses showed that the model could become an independent prognostic factor other than TNM system of GC. The external data set (GSE84437) validation results of GC showed that the model could better predict the prognosis of GC patients. qPCR results indicated that ETV2, SERPINE1, CPZ, VPS35 and IGFBP1 expressions were upregulated in GC samples compared with para-cancer samples. 【Conclusion】 This study further confirmed that Wnt pathway plays an important role in the progress of GC from the perspective of bioinformatics, and we have established a prognosis-related risk model, providing a new perspective for clinical genetic testing, targeted therapy and individualized therapy.
RESUMO
@#There was a male novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV, SARS-CoV-2) pneumonia (COVID-19) patient after pulmonary surgery at age of 61 years. The patient had no clear history of contact COVID-19 patient before surgery. He developed transient fever on the 4th day after surgery. The body temperature returned to normal on the 5th day after antibiotic adjustment. The patient developed fever and fatigue again on the 6th day after surgery. A chest CT scan revealed postoperative pneumonia. The patient was treated by ganciclovir and moxifloxacin hydrochloride. The patient's temperature gradually decreased on the 7th to 9th days after the operation. CT scan on the 10th day after surgery showed viral pneumonia, so we immediately raised the level of protection. The novel coronavirus nucleic acid test was positive. The patient was immediately transferred to the designated hospital for treatment. The patient was treated by arbidol, moxifloxacin, human immunoglobulin (PH4), ambroxol and other nutritional symptomatic and supportive treatment. The patient's condition is currently stable. Ten people in close contact with the patient developed symptoms, and their CT scans showed viral pneumonia. Six of them were positive in nucleic acid tests, and the others were still under quarantine observation. This shows that it is easy to confuse the imaging manifestations of pneumonia with novel coronavirus pneumonia after lung surgery. We should perform nucleic acid detection as soon as possible in the early diagnosis of CT and reformulate the treatment protocol.
RESUMO
Calyceal diverticulum is a cystic intrarenal cavity lined by nonsecretory transitional epithelium that communicates with the collecting system via a narrow isthmus or infundibulum. It is a rare anatomic anomaly with an incidence of 0.2% to 0.6% in the patients undergoing renal imaging.1 Single imaging modality usually cannot differentiate calyceal diverticulum from other cystic renal diseases.2 Here, we report a 60-year-old male who was reliably diagnosed with calyceal diverticulum by retrograde urography combined with non-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance urography (MRU).

Background The Tibetan pig is a pig breed with excellent grazing characteristics indigenous to the Qinghai-Tibet plateau in China. Under conditions of barn feeding, 90% of its diet consists of forage grass, which helps meet its nutritional needs. The present study aimed to isolate and identify a cellulolytic bacterium from the Tibetan pig's intestine and investigate cellulase production by this bacterium. The study purpose is to provide a basic theory for the research and development of herbivore characteristics and to identify a source of probiotics from the Tibetan pig. Results A cellulolytic bacterium was isolated from a Tibetan pig's intestine and identified based on morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics as well as 16S rRNA analysis; it was designated Bacillus subtilis BY-2. Examination of its growth characteristics showed that its growth curve entered the logarithmic phase after 8-12 h and the stable growth phase being between 20 and 40 h. The best carbon source for fermentation was 1% corn flour, while 2% peptone and yeast powder compound were the best nitrogen sources. The initial pH during fermentation was 5.5, with 4% inoculum, resulting in a high and stable amount of enzyme in 24-48 h. Conclusions The isolated BY-2 strain rapidly grew and produced cellulase. We believe that BY-2 cellulase can help overcome the shortage of endogenous animal cellulase, improve the utilization rate of roughage, and provide strain sources for research on porcine probiotics.

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome, characterized by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH), is closely correlated with genioglossus dysfunction. CIH has been identified to mediate mitochondrial damage in genioglossus. It has been reported that endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) could be induced by mitochondrial dysfunction. This study aimed to investigate the role of ERS in CIH-induced genioglossus injury, as well as the possible intervention effect of adiponectin (Ad) supplement in rats.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Forty-five male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups and submitted to room air (group A, n=15) as a control or CIH (groups B and C, n=15, respectively). Throughout the exposure period, intravenous Ad was given in group C; while intravenous normal saline was simultaneously given in groups A and B. After 35-day exposure, genioglossus samples were obtained from the pentobarbital-anaesthetized rats via surgical dissection, following blood sampling. Western blotting was applied to detect expressions of ERS signals and associated apoptotic pathways in genioglossus. Serum adiponectin levels were assessed via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Significant hypoadiponectinemia was revealed in group B only (P < 0.05). Compared to those in groups A and C, expressions of markers involved in ERS, such as glucose regulated protein 78 (GRP78), p-PERK, phosphorylated eukaryotic initiation factor 2a (p-eIF2a), phosphorylated inositol-requiring transmembrane kinase/endoribonuclease 1a (p-IRE1a), spliced X-Box binding protein 1 (XBP1s) and activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6), were significantly enhanced in group B (all P < 0.01); while no significant difference was shown between groups A and C (all P > 0.05). ERSassociated apoptotic pathways were remarkably activated in group B. The involved markers detected as the expression of CCAAT/enhancer binding protein homologous protein (CHOP), B-cell lymphoma/leukemia associatied X protein (BAX) and caspase-12 were significantly elevated (all P < 0.01). Transvenous adiponectin supplement improved the above CIHinduced pathological changes in group C.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Beyond hypoadiponectinemia, CIH could enhance ERS and induce activation of ERS-associated apoptotic pathways in genioglossus, which could be significantly improved by adiponectin supplement.</p>

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Genioglossal dysfuntion takes an important role in pathogenesis of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) in which chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) is the major pathological origin. Recent studies have suggested genioglossal injury induced by CIH might be improved by adiponectin. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of adiponectin on genioglossus contractile properties in rats exposed to CIH.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty-nine healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: normal control (NC), CIH and adiponectin supplement (CIH+Ad) with 13 rats in each. Rats in NC were kept breathing normal air, while rats in CIH and CIH+Ad experienced the same CIH environment eight hours per day for 35 successive days. Rats in CIH+Ad were given intravenous adiponectin of 10 µg twice a week for 30 successive days. Rats in the NC and CIH were injected with normal saline as a control. After 35 days' CIH exposure, the levels of serum adiponectin and genioglossus contractile properties were compared.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Serum adiponectin level was significantly lower in CIH than in NC (1210 ng/ml vs. 2236 ng/ml). Serum adiponectin level in CIH+Ad (1844 ng/ml) was significantly higher than CIH but lower than NC. Twitch tension, time to peak tension, half relaxation time and tetanic tension were significantly lower in CIH than NC and improved in CIH+Ad. All mean tetanic fatigue indices decreased more rapidly in the first 20 seconds than during the subsequent 100 seconds. Tetanic fatigue indices in NC and CIH+Ad were significantly higher compared to CIH.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>CIH could lead to hypoadiponectinaemia, impaired genioglossus contractile properties and decreased fatigue resistance in rats. Such changes could be partially offset by supplementation of adiponectin.</p>

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is regarded as a disease with strong genetic background and associated with hypoadiponectinemia. It is worthwhile to investigate the possible correlation between the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the adiponectin gene and OSAHS.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>With the TaqMan polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, the SNPs at positions 45 and 276 in the adiponectin gene were determined in Chinese of Han nationality in Nanjing district consisting of 103 OSAHS patients (OSAHS group) and 67 normal controls (control group). The association of adiponectin genotype polymorphisms at positions 45 and 276 with OSAHS was analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>No evidence of a direct association was found between OSAHS and adiponectin genotype SNP at positions 45 and 276 (P > 0.05). However, compared with those OSAHS patients having G/T + T/T genotype at position 276, the OSAHS patients with G/G genotype showed a longer neck circumference, a prolonged duration of the longest apnea event, and an elevated level of blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>No direct association was suggested between OSAHS and adiponectin genotype distribution at positions 45 and 276 in Chinese of Han nationality in Nanjing district. However, in OSAHS patients, those with adiponectin G/G genotype at position 276, seemed to have a higher potential risk in development of OSAHS than those having adiponectin SNP276 G/T + T/T genotype.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To isolate expressed sequence tags (ESTs) related to K562 cells erythroid differentiation.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Modified differential display reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (DDRT-PCR) method was applied to identify differential ESTs in uninduced and induced K562 cells by HEMIN for 36 hours. Remarkable differential ESTs were firstly selected for cloning, sequencing and bioinformational analyzing. Several ESTs representing new sequence or providing functional clue were selected for Northern blot analysis.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Sixty differentially expressed cDNA fragments related to K562 cells inducted into erythroid differentiation by HEMIN were obtained. Among them, 38 were upregulated and 22 downregulated. Among the 40 differential ESTs selected for cloning, sequencing and bioinformationally analyzing, 23 were found to match to known GenBank sequences and 10 represented cDNA sequences with only dbEST database matches and 7 ESTs have no any database matches. The results of 6 in 8 ESTs selected for Northern blot analysis were shown to be consistent with the differential expressions of DDRT-PCR.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The improved DDRT-PCR method had successfully overcome the problem of false positive. These ESTs provide some clue for studying the molecular mechanisms and regulation network of erythroid differentiation.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the clinical characters and the therapeutic experience of pediatric kidney transplantation.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Clinical data of 23 pediatric renal transplant recipients (less than 18 years, 14 boys, 9 girls) were analyzed. Recipients were 11 - 17 (mean 15.4 +/- 1.0 years) years old at transplantation. The kidneys were transplanted en bloc extraperitoneally into the recipient's iliac fossa, with the donor renal vein anastomosed to the recipient's external iliac vein. Among 23 transplant procedures, the donor renal artery was anastomosed to the external iliac artery in 14 cases, to the internal iliac artery in 4 cases and to the common iliac artery in 3. The other two allografts were unusual. All the patients were treated with cyclosporine or tacrolimus based immunosuppression, including steroid and azathioprine or mycophenolate mofetil. The initial dose of cyclosporine was 6 - 7 mg per kilogram of body weight per day and that of tacrolimus was 0.15 - 0.20 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. The data of the recovery of renal function, rejection episodes, incidences of side effect and related complication were analyzed respectively.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The transplantation operations were performed uneventful in all the 23 recipients. There were no graft losses for technical reasons. The single graft failure was the result from bad compliance. The renal function was improved 5.5 days in average after transplantation in 22 cases. Main complications were arterial hypertension (57%), pulmonary infection (13%), drug-induced hepatic injury (13%) and bone marrow suppression (13%). Acute rejection occurred in 4 persons 1 year post-operatively (17%). The body weight of the recipients increased 2.3 kg in average and height increased 1.0 cm after the first post-operative year. The mean duration for follow-up was 42 month. One-year patient/graft survival rate was 100%/96% and three-year patient/graft survival rate was 90%/80%.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Kidney transplantation is the preferred treatment for end stage renal failure in children patient. The well procedure, reasonable immunosuppressive regime, prevention and prompt therapy of complication are the keys to get satisfactory survival rate of human/kidney.</p>
