RESUMO

The present study was designed to evaluate effects of the commonly used NSAIDs(acetaminophen, aspirin, and ibuprofen) on human periodontal ligament cells. Human periodontal ligament cells were grown from a cell line provided by Kyungpook National University. Effects of NSAIDs on the proliferation of human periodontal ligament cells were assessed using MTT assays. And then PGE2 concentrations were determined by ELISA and the changes of cellular configuration were found by electron micrograph. The results were as follows; 1. The MTT assay demonstrated that the commonly used NSAIDs(acetaminophen, aspirin, and ibuprofen) had not significant cytotoxic effect on human periodontal ligament cells. 2. NSAIDs inhibited the PGE2 synthesis of human periodontal ligament cells compared with the control group. These inhibitory effects had no significant differences with NSAID type and concentration. 3. Electron micrographs of human periodontal ligament cells treated with NSAIDs showed more narrow and irregular shape.

RESUMO

It is a gel type high functional toothpaste containing vitamin C, E, propolis extract and the rest of herb with a nanoemulsion state. Vitamin C, E is known as the material with an eminent anti-oxidation effect. Propolis is known as the material with an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect. We have been succeeding in making nanoemulsion of vitamin C, E and propolis through the high pressure homogenizer using stable oil and lecithin and the gel type high functional tooth paste were made from nanoemulsion of vitamin C, E and propolis. We observed the process of wound protecting effect and cure effect for a wound of soft tissue, gingival tissue and mucous membrane showing ulcer and inflammation in oral cavity after applying a gel type high functional toothpaste to patient. As a result, the wound were healed very fast and any side effects were not shown. We confirmed that a gel type high functional toothpaste with nanoemulsion of vitamin C, E and propolis extract has good effect not only for wound healing but also for treatment of ulcer-like lesion in oral cavity. So we report our cases with review of literatures.

RESUMO

Bolton analysis is widely used to predict tooth size discrepancy, but its accuracy has been challenged. The purpose of this study was to describe true anterior tooth size discrepancies among orthodontic patients and to evaluate the factors that affect true anterior tooth size discrepancies. The subjects consisted of 80 patients with varying malocclusions (Class I, Class II, Class III, and Class III surgery) who were treated orthodontically. Pre-treatment models, set-up models from post-treatment models, and lateral cephalometric radiographs were analyzed. The results were as follows. The means, the standard deviations, and ranges of anterior Bolton ratio in the present study were somewhat higher than those of Bolton's samples and Korean normal samples. The number of patients showing maxillary deficiency was larger than that of patients showing maxillary excess in view of true anterior discrepancies. There was a significant difference between anterior Bolton discrepancy from pre-treatment models and true anterior discrepancy from set-up models (p 0.05). And there was also no significant difference between the male and female groups (p > 0.05). Overbite and the incisal edge thickness of maxillary anterior teeth have little relationship with true anterior discrepancies. Multiple regression analysis showed that true anterior discrepancy was mainly determined by anterior Bolton ratio, upper incisor to occlusal plane angle after treatment, interincisal angle after treatment, and upper right lateral incisor width.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to investigate the dentoalveolar compensation according to anteroposterior skeletal discrepancy in normal occlusion and to evaluate cephalometric parameters that quantitatively describe dental compensations. The study consisted of 90 subjects (50 males, 40 females) who were selected among specimens of normal occlusion at Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Dept. of Orthodontics. Lateral cephalograms in centric occlusion were traced and digitized for each subject. According to the anteroposterior skeletal pattern, the sample was divided into three groups. Cephalometric data were analyzed for the three groups using the SPSS program. Independent t-test, correlation analysis and regression analysis were carried out. The results were as follows: Dentoalveolar compensation was found in upper and lower incisor inclination and occlusal plane inclination. As the mandible located anterior to the maxilla, the maxillary incisors inclined more labially, the mandibular incisors more lingually, and the occlusal plane continued to flatten. The dental parameters most correlated with anteroposterior skeletal discrepancy were L1 to SN and L1 to FH. Among the compensatory dentoalveolar changes, lower incisor inclination was strongly related to the anteroposterior jaw relationship and played an important role in obtaining a normal incisor relationship. U1 to PtGn and L1 to APog were constant irrelevant to anteroposterior skeletal discrepancy.
