RESUMO

Objective@#To investigate the awareness of and participation in Healthy City construction among residents in Hangzhou City, so as to provide insights into promotion of participation in Healthy City construction.@*Methods@#Residents at ages of 15 to 75 years were sampled using the multi-stage stratified random sampling method, from 30 townships in Jianggan, Xiaoshan and Tonglu counties of Hangzhou City from November 2019 to July 2020, and a questionnaire survey of 10 representative projects pertaining to Healthy City construction in Hangzhou City was performed to investigate the awareness of and participation in Healthy City construction.@*Results@#A total of 5 559 questionnaires were allocated, and 5 211 valid questionnaires were recovered, with an effective recovery rate of 93.74%. The respondents had a mean age of ( 43.82±17.25 ) years, and included 2 280 males ( 43.75% ) and 2 931 females ( 56.25% ). The overall standardized awareness and participation rates of Healthy City construction were 81.73% and 48.58% among the respondents. The projects with the three highest awareness included healthy environment improvements ( 92.67% ), travelling by public transportation ( 92.22% ) and tobacco control action ( 91.04% ), while the projects with the three lowest awareness included chronic disease management ( 75.57% ), maternal and child healthcare ( 72.73% ) and “Healthy Cell” Program ( 45.56% ). The projects with the three highest participation rates included travelling by public transportation ( 74.59% ), healthy environment improvements ( 65.17% ), tobacco control action ( 61.52% ), while the projects with the three lowest participation rate included chronic disease management ( 35.92% ), “Healthy Cell” Program ( 34.96% ) and maternal and child healthcare ( 33.20% ).@*Conclusions@# The overall proportion of participation in Healthy City construction is low among residents in Hangzhou City, and notably, the awareness rate of and the proportion of participation in chronic disease management, maternal and child healthcare and “Healthy cell” Program are both low.

Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of extensively hydrolyzed protein formula(eHF) in very low birth weight(VLBW) infants.Methods:A prospective controlled signal-center trial was conducted in this study, the preterm infants with gestational age of 28-33 weeks and birth weight of 999-1 500 g who were hospitalized at Department of Neonatology, Zhuhai Maternal Hospital within the first 12 hours between January and December 2018, were selected.They were assigned into breast feeding group(HM) and formula feeding group according to the mothers′ disease and parents′ breastfeeding willingness.The formula feeding group was assigned into eHF group and preterm formula (PF)group according to the parents′ breastfeeding willingness.The infants discharging or dead before achieving full feeding, discharging within 28 days after birth, with congenital malformation (complex congenital heart disease, digestive system malformation, etc) and severe sepsis were rolled out. Chi- square test and One- Way ANOVA were used for statistical analysis.Prospective study was conducted among the 3 groups comparing the incidence of feeding intolerance, duration of meconium discharge, the time to regain birth weight and reach full enteral feeding, average hospital stay, incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis of newborn(NEC), cholestasis and extrauterine growth retardation(EUGR), the growth rate of head circumference, length and weight in the first 4 weeks of life, and blood biochemical indices at the first 2 weeks and 4 weeks of life. Results:A total of 102 infants were enrolled, 35 cases in the eHF group, 37 cases in the PF group and 30 cases in the HM group.Compared with the PF group [54.0%(20/37 cases)], the eHF group[22.0%(8/35 cases)] and the HM group [16.7%(5/30 cases)] had lower incidence of feeding intolerance, and the differences were statistically significant( χ2=7.366, 9.901, all P<0.05). The time to regain birth weight[(8.9±1.8) d, (9.1±1.4) d vs.(10.8±2.9) d], time for achieving full enteral feeding [(42.8±2.8) d, (42.3±3.3) vs.(45.5±3.4) d], the duration of meconium discharge [(7.2±1.8) d, (6.6±1.8) d vs.(8.7±2.1) d], and average hospital stay [(52.9±1.1) d, (52.3±1.2) d vs.(54.1±1.2) d]in the eHF group and HM group were shorter than those in PF group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05); and there was no statistically significant difference between the eHF group and the HM group(all P>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of incidence of NEC, cholestasis and EUGR, the growth rate of head circumfe-rence, length and weight in the first 4 weeks of life, the serum albumin, creatinine, urea nitrogen at first 2 weeks and 4 weeks of life among the 3 groups (all P>0.05). Compared with the PF group, the serum total bilirubin levels in the eHF group and the HM group were lower at 2 weeks [(109.4± 4.6) μmol/L, (110.2±1.0) μmol/L vs.(115.0±7.6) μmol/L]and 4 weeks after birth[(79.3±9.7) μmol/L, (80.0±1.7) μmol/L vs.(81.5±8.4)μmol/L], and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05), but no statistically significant difference was found between the eHF goup and the HM group(all P>0.05). Conclusions:For VLBW infants, eHF can reduce feeding intole-rance, promote defecation, achieve full feeding faster, promote bilirubin metabolism, shorten hospital stay, does not affect growth and development in short-term.

Objective@#To understand the quality of life and influencing factors of patients with pneumoconiosis, and to provide a basis for formulating targeted improvement strategies to improve the quality of life.@*Methods@#From April to December 2018, Questionnaire survey was conducted on patients with pneumoconiosis that diagnosed in Hangzhou Hospital for the Prevention and Treatment of Occupational Disease, using self-made questionnaire and SF-36.237 valid questionnaires were used to investigate the basic conditions, health services, social assistance and quality of life of patients, and analyze the influencing factors of quality of life.@*Results@#Hangzhou city's some pneumoconiosis patients were mostly with monthly income <3000 yuan (72.6%, 172/237) ; more patients with medical expenses of 8000 to 25000 yuan per year (60.3%, 143/237) ; The proportion of patients receiving medical assistance and work-related injury insurance was low, at 2.1% (5/237) and 23.8% (54/227) respectively. The scores of Pneumoconiosis patients in PhysicalFunction (PF) , Role-Physical (RP) , Bodily Pain (BP) , General Health (GH) , Vitality (VT) , Social Function (SF) , Role-Emotional (RE) and Mental Health (MH) were lower than the national norm (P<0.05) . The scores from high to low were BP, SF, MH, PF, VT, RE, RP and GH. There were significant differences in the quality of life scores of pneumoconiosis patients with different ages, work types, education levels and monthly income (P<0.05) .@*Conclusion@#The quality of life of some patients with pneumoconiosis in Hangzhou is lower than that of the general population. Age, work types, and monthly income are factors influencing quality of life.

BACKGROUND@#Both aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) rs671 polymorphism and lifestyle behaviors are involved in coronary artery disease (CAD), while the interaction between them is currently unknown.@*METHODS@#A nested case-control study was conducted in 161 patients with CAD and 495 controls in dyslipidemia population in Yinzhou District, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China, in August 2013. Anthropometric data and blood samples were collected, demographic characteristics and lifestyle behaviors information were obtained by a face-to-face interview, dietary intake was assessed by a food frequency questionnaire, and genomic DNA was genotyped.@*RESULTS@#Carriers with increasing number of A alleles had an elevated CAD risk compared with G allele carriers (adjusted OR = 1.483, 95% CI = 1.114-1.974). Carriers of rs671 A/G and A/A genotypes had a higher CAD risk than carriers of G/G genotype (adjusted OR = 1.492, 95% CI = 1.036-2.148). Similarly, individuals with rs671 A/A genotype had a higher CAD risk than individuals with A/G and G/G genotypes (adjusted OR = 2.161, 95% CI = 1.139-4.101). We found a borderline additive interaction between regular fried food intake and A/A and A/G genotypes, and a significantly additive interaction between sedentary/light physical activity and A/A and A/G genotypes.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Individuals with A/A or A/G genotypes of rs671 have a higher CAD risk, if they lack physical activity and take fried food regularly, than individuals with G/G genotypes. These findings can help to provide a guide to targeted heart health management.

Objective@#To investigate and predict the behavioral intention and mode of the protective equipment utilization selection of the workers who used Benzene, the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was applied to establish the behavioral model to enhance the theoretical foundation for long-term intervention.@*Methods@#Questionnaires were used to survey the 707 workers, and all the behaviors of using protective equipment were investigated. Evaluate the relationships between each variable and obtain the influence affects by structural equation model.@*Results@#The investigation showed that 38.47% of the total workers (272 cases) used whole body protection, 13.58% used partially, and 16.69% didn't use any body protection. There were significant difference between the varying degrees in the four dimensions (behavioral attitude, perceived behavior control, subjective norm, and behavioral intention) (P<0.01) . The results of structural equation model revealed that perceived behavior control was the most important influencing factor, subjective norm, positive attitude, negative attitude were the other three respects in sequence. The path co-efficient were 0.600、0.215、0.141 and 0.046 respectively.@*Conclusion@#The study show that the theory of planned behavior can effectively explain the behavioral intention and behavior of protective equipment utilization. Therefore, combining the subjective initiative of individuals with the supervision of enterprises, In order to effectively enhance the protective equipment utilization of benzene workers.

Objective To investigate the changes of platelet reactivity and its influencing factors after aspirin treatment in patients with ischemic stroke complicated with diabetes. Methods From September 2016to December 2017, patients with acute ischemic stroke admitted to the Department of Neurology, Weihai Municipal Hospital within 24 h of onset were enrolled. All patients took aspirin (100 mg/d) within 24 h ofadmission, and after taking the drug (7 ±2 d), the PL-11 platelet function analyzer was used to determine the maximum platelet aggregation ratio (MAR) induced by arachidonic acid (AA). The baseline data of the patients were documented. The factors affecting high platelet reactivity (HPR) were analyzed. Results A total of 398 patients with ischemic stroke were enrolled, including 137 in the diabetes group and 261 in the non-diabetes group. MARAA (43. 45% ± 14. 11% vs. 31. 55% ± 19. 39%; t = 6. 996, P < 0. 001) and the incidence of HPR (34. 3% vs. 19. 9%; χ2 = 9. 946, P = 0. 002) in the diabetes group were significantly higher than in those in the non-diabetes group. Of the 137 patients with ischemic stroke complicated with diabetes, 47 had HPR. The proportions of patients with hyperlipidemia, previous history of stroke or transient ischemic attack and baseline NIHSS score, HOMA-IR (homeostatis model assessment-insulin resistance),high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, fasting blood glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin in the HPR group were significantly higher than those in the non-HPR group (all P < 0. 05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that HOMA-IR (odds ratio [OR] 1. 153, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1. 027-1. 295; P =0. 016), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (OR 9. 416, 95% CI 2. 271-39. 049; P = 0. 002), fasting blood glucose (OR 1. 125, 95% CI 1. 025-1. 235; P = 0. 013), and glycosylated hemoglobin (OR 1. 458, 95% CI 1. 170-1. 816; P = 0. 001) were the independent risk factors for HPR. Conclusion The platelet reactivity during aspirin therapy in patients with ischemic stroke complicated with diabetes mellitus was high, and platelet activity was associated with multiple mechanisms, such as inflammation, insulin resistance, and hyperglycemia.

Objective To probe into the clinical application value of ERCP stent implantation in treatment of elderly patients with malignant obstructive jaundice. Methods From January 2014 to December 2015, 97 elderly patients with malignant obstructive jaundice were selected in our hospital as study objects. According to the different treatment, the patients were divided into study group (n = 50) and control group (n = 47) randomly. The patients in study group were treated with ERCP biliary stent implantation. The patients in control group were treated with PTCD biliary stent implantation. The surgical treatment, clinical symptoms, liver function, immunologic function and incidence of complication of the patients between the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results Compared with control group, the patients in study group, the rate of successful operation was 96.00% (48/50), there was increased, but the differences were not significant statistically (P > 0.05); the patients in study group, total efficiency rate was 94.00% (47/50), there were increased significantly, the differences were significant statistically (P < 0.05); the patients in study group after 2 weeks treatment, TBIL were (110.24±60.05) μmol/L, DBIL were (82.43 ± 46.19) μmol/L, ALT were (86.79 ± 39.30) IU/L, AST were (53.65 ± 35.81) IU/L, ALP were (216.83 ± 127.74) IU/L, GGT were (196.52 ± 100.64) IU/L, there were improved significantly, the differences were significant statistically (P < 0.05);the patients in study group after treatment, the levels of CD3+ was (70.24 ± 5.62)%, CD4+ was (37.74 ± 3.85)%, CD4+/CD8+ was (1.35 ± 0.12) and CD8+ was (27.96 ± 3.14)%, there was reduced significantly, the differences were significant statistically (P < 0.05); the patients in study group, the incidence of total complication was 8.00% (4/50), there was decreased significantly, the differences were significant statistically (P < 0.05). Conclusion ERCP stent implantation has very important clinical significance in improving the treatment effect, liver function and immune function for elderly patients with malignant obstructive jaundice.

Objective To learn the recent development and regional distribution of clinics in China.Methods Based on statistics and a nationwide survey of clinics in the country,a simple linear regression was made to find factors determining clinics regional distribution.Results Clinics in China were found to have grown sizably from 134 000 in 2008 to 155 000 in 2014;medical technology workers to 2.31 per clinic in 2014;and the total revenue of these clinics accounted for only 0.724% of all medical institutions,while there are more clinics in the east than the west regions in China.Conclusions The role of clinics in attracting high quality medical resources to primary care should be further enhanced for development of the hierarchical medical system in China.

Objective To explore the key techniques used for surveillance and disposal of infectious diseases,food poisoning and hospital infection to improve the ability of surveillance and disposal on public health emergency.Methods Framework on surveillance and disposal of infectious diseases,food poisoning and hospital infection was set up,based on literature review and expert group discussion.Delphi method and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution comprehensive evaluation method were used for ordering preference by similarity,to screen key techniques set for surveillance and disposal of the above said events.Results Framework to be used for selecting key techniques was designed,based on the classification of emergency events,processing cycle of emergency events and level of techniques.Twenty six public health experts were selected for a 2-round consultation,with their authority as 0.796.Ten key techniques with important significance for surveillance and disposal of infectious diseases,food poisoning and hospital infection were selected from each event.Among these key techniques,the early-warning system was recognized as the key technique,important for the surveillance and disposal of all three emergency events.Items as technology used for unknown pathogenic microorganism detection,personal protection,gene sequencing and tracing technology,microorganism molecular typing technology,nucleic acid detection technology etc.were the key techniques and need to develop for the surveillance and disposal of infectious diseases and iatrogenic infection.Data regarding key technologies on security and privacy,early warning and forecasting,field rapid detection were sorted out that all in need to improve the surveillance programs on disposal of infectious diseases and food poisoning.Data exchange appeared another key technique on infectious diseases,with toxin detection and other 5 techniques the key techniques for food poisoning.Data collection,standardization and other 3 techniques appeared as the key techniques on iatrogenic infection.Conclusions Key techniques were selected in this study to meet the requirements of surveillance,disposal of infectious disease,food poisoning and iatrogenic infection.Authority of the experts got improved in the two-round consultation,ensuring the reliability of the results of screening and providing a scientific basis for the further research and priority development of the key techniques.

Objective To investigate the prognosis and its influencing factors of post-encephalitic epilepsy ( PEE) .Methods Fifty viral encephalitis patients with PEE were followed up, which prognosis was observed by whether their no seizures for at least 1 year or not.The clinical data of patients was collected, and the relate risk factors on the poor prognosis of PEE were analyzed.Results The disturbance of consciousness and the seizure presence during acute encephalitis, more than ten seizures in poor prognosis group were much higner than the good one (all P0.05 ) .Multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that disturbance of consciousness during acute encephalitis、seizures presence in acute encephalitis were independent risk factors of poor outcome in PEE ( OR=7.269,95%CI:1.22 -43.35,P=0.029;OR =22.893,95%CI:4.02 -130.43,P=0.000).Conclusion Disturbance of consciousness during acute encephalitis, seizure presence in acute encephalitis both are the single risk factors of poor prognosis in PEE.

Objective:To analyze the progress of the contracting service model in community health centers in the typical areas in China, and provide empirical evidence for the hierarchical system targeted to make first contact and orderly dual transfer. Methods: Purposive sampling was adopted. Twelve community health centers in Beijing, Shanghai , Zhengzhou and Chengdu areas where the general practitioner model was conducted earlier and set to be the representative one, were selected as the field survey sites. A thematic framework analysis was used to describe the key factors around the contacting service model. Results:This model was developed around the following key factors:using the general practice team as the main service provider, taking the patients with chronic diseases as the main contracting groups and extending to their family members with the number of contracted ranging around 1500~2000 , freely providing both essential public health and medical services, fully using the family physician room as the con-tracting service platform and highlighting the actively serving concept, building the financial and non-financial incen-tives, health insurance benefits and green transfer mechanisms in order to efficiently guarantee the contracting service development. Conclusions: Based on the information platform, the contracting service model in the sample sites played a great role in the appointment and referral services development as well as the self-health management among residents, improving the relationship between physicians and patients, and promoting the formation of orderly health service pursuing pattern.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the situation of sports and its influencing factors among students in order to improve health related education and promotion programs.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A multistage random sampling method was used on 3 600 students from three cities to understand their physical exercise behavior. Both t and χ(2) test were used to measure the scale of psychology and to describe the time spent on exercise. Single variance factor was used to measure the levels of change on behavior of physical activities, psychological and physical exercise behaviors.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The weekly exercise time for students was 2.66 ± 1.801 days, with 81.4% of the students less than four days. Data showed that 37.3%, 23.6%, 20.5% of the high school students were in pre-contemplation stage, in contemplation stage, or in preparation stage respectively, with only 18.6 percent of the high school students in the action phase and maintaining phase. Students in the stages of change increase the amount of physical exercises. Scores with statistically significant differences were seen in the following areas: between five stages of behavior change on strategies (F = 77.442, P < 0.001), forward effects on the balance of decision-making (F = 29.498, P < 0.001), having negative effects (F = 14.784, P < 0.001)and self-efficacy (F = 135.544, P < 0.001). Changing strategy on the intention stage of front maintenance phase, positive effects on decision-making balance and self-efficacy scores were increasing along with the increasing stages of changing. The effect of balancing the negative effects increased when the change of phase decreased.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Students were in lack of physical exercise per week. The differences related to the behavior on physical exercise did exist but most of the high school students were in the primary stage. Psychological factors played important role in the different stages of changing, suggesting that high school students should receive different health education and psychological intervention measures to enhance the effectiveness of physical exercise.</p>

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Lead exposure during pregnancy contributes to fetal abortion and/or teratogenesis. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) apoptosis can be induced by various pathological conditions when ER function is disturbed. However, it is unclear whether ER stress and apoptosis play a role in the etiology of lead-exposed disease status. We aimed to investigate whether lead induced placental apoptosis and subsequent toxicity is initiated by ER apoptosis via caspase-12.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty-three female Wistar rats were exposed to lead in drinking water during various gestational periods. Blood lead level was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Placental cytoplasmic organelles were examined by electronic microscopy. Placental caspase-12 mRNA expression was evaluated by qRT-PCR. TUNEL assay was used to determine the placental apoptosis.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Lead exposure significant induced ER apoptosis compared to that of the controls (P < 0.05), accompanied with increased caspase-12 mRNA expression. Significant differences of caspase-12 mRNA expression levels were observed among the four groups (F = 13.78, P < 0.05). Apoptotic index (AI) was significantly increased in experimental groups compared to that of the controls (F = 96.15, P < 0.05). In lead-exposed groups, trophoblast cells underwent degeneration and fibrin deposition; Mitochondria were swollen and decreased in number; ER swelling, expansion, and vacuolization were observed.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Lead exposure contributes to placental apoptosis, as well as increased caspase-12 mRNA expression, which in turn promoted ER stress.</p>

Objective To explore the influencing factors of routine blood test results in the laboratory ,to ensure the accuracy of test results .Methods The influence of the different area of drawing blood and different testing time after blood collection were ob-served .Results The leukocyte count ,red blood cell count ,hemoglobin level of finger blood were obviously higher than those of venous blood ,and the platelet count was lower than that of venous blood ,the difference was statistically significant(P<0 .05) .≥6 h test specimens of blood platelet count was significantly lower ,compared to immediate detection and less than 6 h ,the difference was statistically significant(P<0 .05) .Conclusion The improvement of the system ,operation specification ,improving the quality of samples are helpful to improve the accuracy of test results .

BACKGROUND:Several studies have confirmed that bone marrow mesenchymal stem celltransplantation exerts a certain neuroprotective role in cerebral infarction. Edaravone is a novel potent smal-molecule hydroxyl radical scavenger, which play a protective role in the brain by eliminating free radicals and inhibiting nerve celldamage after cerebral infarction. OBJECTIVE:To explore the influence of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells combined with edaravone on expressions of aquaporin-4, Bcl-2, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor after cerebral infarction in rats. METHODS:Eighty Wistar rats were selected to establish models of cerebral infarction by right middle cerebral artery occlusion, and then randomly divided into control group, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells group, edaravone group and edaravone+bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells group (combination group). After 6 hours of modeling, rats from these four groups were respectively injected via the tail vein with PBS, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, edaravone and edaravone+bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. After 72 hours, the rats were decapitated to take brain tissues. Consequently, expressions of aquaporin-4, Bcl-2, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor mRNA and protein were determined by RT-PCR and western blot methods. After 12, 24 and 36 hours, TUNEL method was used for the determination of cellapoptosis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The expressions of Bcl-2 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor were higher in the combination group than the other three groups (P<0.05), but the expression of aquaporin-4 was lowest in the combination group (P<0.05). The number of apoptotic cells in the combination group was significantly lower than that in the other three groups. These findings suggest that the combination of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and edaravone can improve expressions of Bcl-2 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the injured site, and significantly inhibit neuronal apoptosis. Meanwhile, the combination therapy can decrease expression of aquaporin-4 and mitigate cerebral edema, which is superior to bone marrow mesenchymal stem celltransplantation and edaravone alone.

ObjectiveTo explore the key problems facing health record management and put forward effective strategies.Methods Questionnaires survey was performed among county medical staff,country doctors and rural residents who had medical records.Fishbone diagram was used to justify the results.Results At Chongyi count,rural residents got 20-Yuan subsidy per person for medical examine,although the establishment of a health file cost at least 55.5 Yuan,including 42.7 Yuan for medical examination.Only 60 of 108 villages were equipped with computers.Medical staff account for 1.49/1000.The awareness and use of health records were insufficient.ConclusionOur data suggest that it should be necessary to increase financial investment,enhance knowledge on health records,put electronic information system into practice,and strengthen personnel training in the future.

Objective To investigate the expression of CD133 protein in primary lesions of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its clinical significance.Methods The expression of CD133 protein in 190 patients with HCC was detected by immunohistochemical staining ABC method.The correlation of CD133 protein expression with the clinicopathologic parameters and features after operation was analyzed.Results The expression positive rate of CD133 protein in cancer tissues was 22.1% (42/190).There was significant correlation between the expression of CD133 protein and tumor differentiation (P < 0.001),micro vessel invasion (P =0.016) and hepatitis B virus infection (P =0.024).Univariate analysis of factors demonstrated that differentiation level,lymph node,macro vessel invasion,micro vessel invasion,TNM stage and CD133 expression were correlated with disease-free survival after surgery (all P < 0.05).Multivariate analysis of factors demonstrated that both CD133 expression and micro vessel invasion were independent prognostic factors of disease-free survival after surgery.Prognostic analysis demonstrated that the disease-free survival of CD133 positive group was significantly lower than that of CD133 negative group.Conclusion The CD133 protein expression in HCC tissues is related with development,metastasis and prognosis of HCC.

Objective To investigate the effects of lead exposure on rat placental apoptosis during different periods of pregnancy. Methods All Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups with 27 for each group with the sex ratio of 2 : 1 (female : male).The groups with lead exposure consumed water with 0. 025% lead acetate during the entire, early or late period of pregnancy. Controls were given distilled water without lead.Blood lead levels were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry at the end of pregnancy. Placental apoptosis were assessed by both Hoechst staining and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labelling (TUNEL) assay. Data were assessed by one-way analysis of variance, and differences between groups were compared by q-test. ResultsBlood lead levels at the end of pregnancy of the groups with lead exposure (entire, early or late pregnancy) and the control group were (1. 74±0. 19) μmol/L,(1.27±0.26) μmol/L, (0.60±0. 11) μmol/L and (0.04±0.01) μmol/L respectively(F= 12. 10,P<0.01).In the groups with lead exposure, Hoechst staining showed hyperchromatic nuclei in placental trophoblast apoptotic cells and compact fluorescent particles in some nucleus; TUNEL assay showed brown-staining apoptotic cells nuclei with some nuclei particles staining brown. Two assays showed the same results: the apoptotic index of the groups with lead exposure were higher than that of the control group; the apoptosis index of the group with lead exposure during entire pregnancy was higher than that of the group with lead exposure during early and late pregnancy (P < 0. 05).ConclusionsLead exposure during pregnancy could elevate the blood levels of lead and the degree of placental apoptosis.

RESUMO

Objective To develop simple theories and methods for health quality evaluation in moderately prosperous society, and to establish a health quality index (HQI) model to assess the improvement in health quality. Methods Four health quality - related indexes were selected following screening. HQI was then calculated. In 5 provinces, empirical analysis of HQI was conducted. Results In F test, there was significant difference in HQI between different regions of China in 2005. Conclusions The study provides a scientific, comprehensive, sensitive, and intuitive evaluation index, HQI, which may be helpful in assessing the health level.
