RESUMO

A survey of helminthes parasites of domestic fowl Gallus domestics from Saudi Arabia was conducted continuously from December 1981 to November 1982 at Jeddah. Parasitological examination of fowls revealed the presence of three intestinal cestode species of the genus Raillietina, Fuhrmann, 1920. These species were identified as Raillietina tetragona, Raillietina echinobothrida and Raillietina cesticillus. This study aims at introducing these cestode species for the first time from the west region of Saudi Arabia through their redescription. A trial to differentiate between the three mentioned species was also done

RESUMO

The present study revealed that domesticated birds in Saudi Arabia are parasitised by four species of Mallophaga, all belonging to family Philopteridae and suborder Ischnocera. Meleagris gallopava domestica [turkey] may be host of one or two of the following species of Mallophaga: 1-Chlopistes meleagridis [Linnaeus, 1758] the large body louse]. 2-Lepeurus caponis [Linnaeus, 1758] [the wing louse]. Columba livia domestica [pigon] may be parasitised by: 3-Columbicola columbae [Linnaeus, 1758] [the wing louse]. Campanulotes biden [Burmeister, 1838] [the small pigeon louse]. All the mentioned species of biting lice were collected from living infested birds at different localities specially in Jeddah. Morphological structures of diagnostic importances are given for each species. This work can be considered as a new locality record for the four mentioned species of Mallophaga

RESUMO

Parasitological examination of domestic fowl [Gallus gallus domesticus] in Jeddah revealed the presence of natural infection with Stubulura brumpti in the caeca of 24.9% of the examined fowls. Identification of the nematode parasites was made on the morphology of mature male and female worms with special reference to the taxonomic characters and the characteristic features of the egg. A full redescription of this nematode is given. The present situation of the genus Subulura and its proper place is also discussed. This study records the occurrence of S. brumpti in Saudi Arabia as a new locality

RESUMO

The present work deals with a survey of Mallophaga infesting domestic pigeon [Columba livia domestica] and turkey [Meleagris gallopavo domestica] from Saudi Arabia. Living birds from different localities were thoroughly examined for lice infestation. The different species of biting lice were collected and prepared for parasitological study. Results revealed the presence of three species of Mallophaga, suborder Amblycera. These are Colpocephalum turbinatum Denny, 1842 from domestic pigeon, Menacnthus cornotus Schommer, 1931 and Menopon gallinae [Linnaeus, 1758] from domestic turkey. All these species belong to family Menoponidae and are newly recorded for Saudi Arabia. Descriptions of the morphological characters of each species are also given

RESUMO

A survey of the parasitic cestodes of the domestic pigeon Columba livia damsetica gets conducted from 1981 to 1982. Pigeons were obtained from the west region of Saudi Arabia. Cotugnia meggitti and Cotugnia cuneata were recovered and redescribed from the duodenum of the host. These two cestodes are cosmopolitan in their distribution, but are reported for the first time from Saudi Arabia. During parasitological examination of the pigeons, several individuals were found to harbour a new species of Catugnia in the jejunum. The present study was designed to provide informations about the cestode parasites of the domestic pigeon in Saudi Arabia. It also records a near species of the genus Cotugnia, Cotugnia arabia from Columba livia domestica

RESUMO

Larval nematodes belonging to the genus Anisakis is redescribed from Merluccius merluccius from Egypt. The larvae are characterized by the presence of a lip mass surrounding the mouth opening and a tail spine at its post. end. The alimentary canal is simple without oesophageal appendix or intestinal caecum. The average length of the larva and that of the oesophagus with its two portions are also included. This parasite is reported here on account to record its new locality. Histological examination of normal fish liver demonstrated a diffused pancreatic tissue composed of pancreatic acini and islets of Langerhans. The hepatic parenchymal cells are arranged in strands enclosing a network of sinusoids in between. Histopathologic studies of liver infected with Anisakis larvae revealed a hypertrophy in parenchymal cells and necrosis in the nuclei. Some capsules enclosing larvae were also observed. Histochemically, a significant decrease in lipids and acid mucopolysaccharides was noted in infected hepatic cells in comparison with normal liver tissue
