RESUMO

The intra ocular pressure in both eyes of 23 patients undergoing open heart surgery, was measured by Schiotz indentation tonometer before, during and after the surgery until it returned to the pre operative levels. It was observed that a marked and rapid drop of the IOP occurs during the operation time, reaching its minimum during the cardio-pulmonary by-pass [[PB] period, then it gradually rises to its normal pre operative levels in 69.5% of cases [16 out of 23] at the end of the first post operative day, in 91% of cases [21 out of 23] at the end of the second post operative day and in all cases [100% of cases] at the end of the third post operative day. The possible explanations for such changes were discussed in view of the anaesthetic agents, techniques and associated hemodynamic parameters

RESUMO

A study was done on eighteen adult males referred from the poison Control Centre on Ain Shans University, 6 months after methyl alcocohol intosication The electrophysiological investigations proved the following 1-ERG: was normal in all cases meaning that the retina was not affected by that type of poisoning 2-VEP: which is useful diagnostic and prognostic type of investigation for optic nerve function and affection, was extinguished in 10 cases, of low amplitude in 6 cases, and normal in 2 cases 3-Visual field changes: the findings were mainly in the form of central scotomata and marked peripheral field contraction

RESUMO

Laser photocoagulatuon of the excised pterygium bed in surgically excised pterygia has proven its effectiveness in stopping recurrence once it starts, even in recurrent cases. All cases of primary pterygia treated by such method proved 100% success. In recurrent cases who did excision only once before, the success rate decreased to 92% of cases, while in recurrent cases who did the operation twice or more, the success rate was only 71%

RESUMO

The clinical effects of methanol poisoning on human eyes were studied on all cases of methyl alcohol poisoning refered to the Poison Control Center of Ain Shams University for the last 2 years [1985,1986j. The pupillary changes, visual acuity and ophthalmoscopic findings were recorded. The histopathological changes of 8 eyes 4 cases died from methanol toxicity were also studied. Our study and results were compared with that reported in the literature on ocular toxicity of methanol which were in most of it on experimental animals

RESUMO

A modified Kettesy's tarsal rotation operation for correction of cicatricial entropion of the lower lid, even recurrent cases, was described above. A modified method of suturing and incision which is different from the original Kettesy's operation and its modified method of suturing suggested by Farag, 1963, is added and adviced by us. Modified Kettesy's tarsal rotation operation is recommended for correction of cicatricial entropion of the lower lid, even in recurrent cases because of its favourable surgical and cosmetic results

RESUMO

Induced vitreous haemorrhage was done in 12 pigmented Egyptian rabbits. They were divided into four groups. In each group one acted as a control, the second and third were treated by cryopexy applications in different manner [severe, and very severe]. Each group of rabbits were slaughtered at different period from the time of induction of vitreous haemorrhage. During these periods follow up of the condition was achieved ophthalmoscopically and by taking fundus photographs, then microscopic examination was performed. The effect of cryopexy application on induced vitreous haemorrhage in rabbits was compared with controlled cases and assessment was done

RESUMO

The meaning of microsurgery for retinal detachment, its advantages over conventional methods for retinal detachment surgery, how it gives better control during surgery, all were discussed in details in addition the advantages and disadvantages of biomicroscopy versus indirect Ophthalmoscopy were discussed the instrumentation needed to perform R.D. under the microscope was discussed in details with new modifications added in the last few years. Lastly the surgical technique was explained
