RESUMO

This study included 14 fractures in 14 patients done between August 1995 and January 1999, all were treated by ring fixator with or without minimal internal fixation. There were 3 open injuries. The mechanism of injury was high energy trauma in 12 patients, 4 cases followed group C according to AO classification. There were 4 females and 10 males. The average age was 39.5 years [18 to 65 years]. All cases were followed up for an average period of 16.2 months [10 to 55 months]. After statistical analysis, 8 cases were classified as excellent 5 as fair and 1 poor. Few complications were met with, however no serious problems were encountered

RESUMO

This work was conducted to evaluate the early functional results of total knee replacement [TKR] in degenerative arthritis. Twenty knees of 19 patients [5 males and 14 females] with severe osteoarthritis were included. The average age was 61 years [range 55-74 years]. The right side was operated upon in 13 knees. Only one patient had the procedure done bilaterally. All the patients were evaluated preoperatively both clinically and radiologically. The patients were also evaluated according to the clinical rating system described by the Knee Society. The patients were followed up for an average period of 39 months with a minimum of 26 months and a maximum of 65 months. The clinical rating system improved from a mean preoperative of 35 +/- 14 points [range 30-65 points] to 82 +/- 9 points [range 60-95 points] at the latest evaluation. There were no serious complications or reoperations at the time of the latest review, except one patient who had a lateral release procedure two months after the TKR

RESUMO

In this work we reported the results of a total of sixteen patients who underwent arthroscopically assisted anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] reconstruction with the use of autogenous patellar ligament graft [APLG]. All the patients but one were males, and the right knee was involved in nine patients. The mean of their age was 26.57 years and the mean time between their injury and operation was 10.69 months. The mean of the follow up period was 12.3 months. We achieved satisfactory results in all patients [good to excellent on Lysholm score]. Also, there were substantive improvement in their symptoms mainly the giving way, and pain and we also report no cases of significant patellofemoral pain. Moreover, there was a significant difference in the number of patients who had some complications well known with ACL reconstruction with the use of [APLG] with arthrotomy like patellar problems, stiffness and quadriceps weakness

RESUMO

This work included 16 cases of diaphyseal femoral fracture treated by interlocking nail femur, 12 of them had recent fractures and 4 cases had non union because of failed other methods of internal fixation. The average age was 32 years. Our cases were followed up for 14 months. All cases had solid consolidation before 11 months. Grafting was used in 6 cases. Seven cases were dynamised. Only one case had deep infection because it was a puncture compound fracture. We concluded from this study that interlocking femoral fixation mainly in comminuted femural fractures has many advantages regarding union, rigid fixation and preservation of femoral length
