RESUMO

We are presenting and to the best of our knowledge a new neonatal presentation of congenital adrenal hyperplasia, where a male newborn was born with pseudodiphallia and proved to have congenital adrenal hyperplasia. The metabolic derangement end product of congenital adrenal hyperplasia may have affected the fetus external genitalia leading to development of this anomaly. We therefore, presented this case because of this rare association

RESUMO

Between April 1987 and February 1990 five patients with sacrococcygeal teratoma were diagnosed and treated by the author at AI-Basheer Hospital and Jordan University Hospital. One of the cases was diagnosed antenatally during maternal ultrasonographic examination for maternal polyhydramnios, one case was diagnosed and treated at the age of four, while the other three were diagnosed and treated during the first year of life. None of the patients had any associated congenital anomaly. In all patients serum levels of alpha fetoprotein and B sub unit of human chorionic gonadotropin were estimated in order to be utilized as tumor markers. All the patients had surgical resection of the tumor together with the coccyx soon after the diagnosis was made. Histopathological examination showed mature teratoma in all cases with no evidence of malignancy. One of the patients died due to septicemia and prematurity while the others are symptom free and none of them have had recurrence during the period of follow up

RESUMO

Postoperative pain is among the causes of emotional disturbances related to surgery in pediatric patients. Narcotic analgesics are used widely to control this pain, although these drugs can be hazardous especially In the very young age group. During the period 1984-1988 at Albasheer Hospital, a total number of 441 patients received local infiltrative and regional analgesia for postoperative pain control. Their ages ranged between one month and ten years. Their operations included hernia and hydrocele repair, orchidopexy, circumcision and hypospadias repair. Local and regional analgesia was found to be very helpful alternative to narcotic analgesics in controlling postoperative pain especially for operations that were scheduled as day surgery operations. Pain was satisfactorily controlled in the majority of our patients. This paper outline the experience in demonstrating the efficacy and advantage of local analgesia for pain control
