RESUMO

This study was carried out on a sample of 210 skulls belonging to three age categories. The metric and morphological traits of palate were studied. Craniometric measurement was correlated with palatometric ones. A high degree of polymorphism was elicited among morphological hard palate traits, rendering the palatal traits a suitable tool for personal individualization. Nearly, all metric traits showed significant differences between both sexes and most of the morphological traits. Female palates were shorter, narrower and lower than males with many other differences in morphological traits. Egyptian crania were longer, broader and higher than other races; while their palate was longer, narrower and shallower, in addition to multiple morphological differences

RESUMO

Teratogenicity of amitriptyline and amineptine antidepressants was investigated in pups of 60 dams. They were divided into three equal groups. The first group was served as a control. The second and third groups were treated orally, by gavage, with daily therapeutic doses of amitriptyline [0.0054 mg/g b.w.] and amineptine [0.009 mg/g b.w.], respectively, from the first day of gestation till the end of pregnancy. On the 20th day of gestation, ten dams from each group were sacrificed and their uteri and pups were examined and followed up for four weeks. The data of the present study proved the teratogenic potential risk of amitriptyline and amineptine antidepressants in albino rats and it was recommended that these drugs should not be prescribed during pregnancy

RESUMO

The effects of testosterone on the filiform and fungiform lingual papillae were studied in 16 adult male albino rats. They were divided into 4 groups: Animals of group I were used as control, that of group II were injected by testosterone for 2 weeks, animals of group III were castrated and that of group IV were castrated and injected by testosterone for 2 weeks. Scanning electron and light microscopic studies revealed hypertrophy of the filiform and fungiform papillae after testosterone administration. Atrophy of the papillae was observed after castration. However, the papillae appeared similar to the control and testosterone was administered to the orchidectomized animals

RESUMO

Forty adult albino rats weighting 200-300 gm. were used. They were divided into 4 groups, each contains 10 animals. Animals of group I used as control group II received a daily oral dose of ethinyl estradiol for 3 weeks, group III exposed to bilateral ovariectomy and group IV were exposed to bilateral ovariectomy and received the same daily oral dose of the drug. At the end of the 3rd week the animals were sacrificed and the uteri were taken and processed for light microscopic study. Measurement for the endometrium and their lining epithelial cells were taken and analyzed. In non-ovariectomized treated rats, the endometrium showed many folds with tall columnar epithelial lining. The endometrial glands became numerous and enlarged. The histological changes in endometrium of normal treated rats were more extensive than that of the ovariectomized treated ones. Discussion of these results was done

RESUMO

Vacuolation of eye lenses has been observed in the newborn offspring of rats fed a 40% galactose diet during pregnancy. This is the precursor of galactose-induced cataract. Restriction of this diet from mothers during lactation in normal lenses within 3 weeks of life while continuation of galactose diet to mothers during lactation resulted in mature cataract up to the end of the study [8 weeks]. We conclude that galactose- induced cataract begins in utero due to the accumulation of galactitol, the polyol of galactose, and recovers by restriction of galactose from diet
