RESUMO

Hypertension has now been recognized as the single most important aetiological factor in the pathogenesis of stroke in most studies throughout the world. The present study also found a strong association between hypertension and stroke. According to the present study, women suffer more often from stroke than men. Moreover, elevated blood pressure is found as often in female stroke patients as in male patients. Maximum cases of stroke occur between the ages of 75 to 84 in the developed world but stroke appears to occur at a younger age in Pakistan

RESUMO

In mid 1988 a delegation comprising Gen. Ali Masood Akram, the then Executive Director of P.I.M.S. and the author, visited Ankara at the invitation of the Rector of Hacettepe University Professor Dr. Yuksel A. Bozer. The object was to delineate ways and means of collaboration and co-operation at all levels between P.I.M.S. and the Hacettepe University. This tour was arranged through the efforts of his Excellency Baki Ilkin, Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan. This thus was a unique honour awarded to P.I.M.S., a medical institution still in its infancy in a third world country by one of the most prestigious universities of a more developed country to which it is tied in strong bonds of fraternity, culture and religion. This delegation made an extensive survey of medical education not only at Hacettepe university but in Turkey as a whole, and had extremely useful discussions with the people at the helm of affairs of medical education, both at undergraduate as well as postgraduate levels
