RESUMO
Appendiceal mucocele is an uncommon disease caused by a progressive dilatation of the ileocecal appendix by a mucus filled lumen. We report the case of a 72-year-old woman who underwent surgery for an appendiceal mucocele. This case highlights the importance of both a correct preoperative diagnosis and a targeted surgical strategy, to reduce the risk of complications like the rupture of the mucocele and consequent pseudomyxoma peritonei [PP]
