RESUMO

Patients with acute and chronic Schistosomiasis mansoni were examined for genetic damage using the conventional cytogenetic method to assess the frequency of chromosomal aberration [CA] in the cultured blood cells. A nonsignificant difference was noticed in the frequency of CA between patients [acute and chronic] and controls [n=15], but on the treatment of blood cultures with bleomycin [a radiomimetic agent with a DNA alkylating effect], the percentage of induced breakage and fragmentation increased significantly 2 and 3 folds in acute and chronic patients, respectively, indicating an increased chromosomal fragility. The incidence of rearrangement in the form of translocation was significantly increased as compared with the control blood cultures treated with bleomycin. The study revealed the antimitotic effect of schistosomiasis as evidenced from a significant inhibition of mitotic index

RESUMO

A human nasopharyngeal linguatuliasis was reported for the second time in Egypt. A 20 years old male patients was presented with main conspicuous complaints, fever, urticaria [face and neck], coughing, vomiting and passage of small [less than 1 cm in length], worm-like structures in his nasal discharge and vomitus. Symptomatic treatment was given, followed by a single dose of praziquantel after identification of the causative parasite. Human linguatuliasis [pentastomiasis] was discussed

RESUMO

The results of this study showed the presence of four species of Anopheles [A. [C] pharoensis, A. [C] sergenti, A. [C] multicolor and A. [A] tenebrosus]. The most common species was A. pharoensis, followed by A. sergenti and A. multicolor. The least common was A. enebrosus. The highly infested area with Anopheles species was sinouris and the least was El-Siliyien. The bionomics and the vector competence of the adults of the four species were studied
