RESUMO
The effect of cimetidine on portal hypertension due to schistosomal hepatic fibrosis was studied. The portal pressure was measured during laparotomy in 10 patients before and after intravenous administration of 400 mg cimetidine, no significant drop of portal pressure occurred. It is therefore unlikely that cimetidine would be of use in the treatment of portal hypertension due to schistosomal hepatic fibrosis
