RESUMO

This survey was done to evaluate awareness of various treatment modalities forreplacing single missing tooth among the people of western Maharashtra. Wewanted to assess gender wise awareness of patients regarding fixed dentalprosthesis as a treatment modality for replacement of missing tooth.METHODSThis cross-sectional study was done on 150 subjects visiting the dental college usinga self-administered structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was pre-testedthrough a pilot survey. Data was evaluated using version 16.0 of the SPSS. ChiSquare test and ANOVA were used as test of significance at p < 0.05.RESULTSOut of 150 subjects, 87 were males and 63 females. Around 64% of the subjectswanted to replace missing tooth due to difficulty in masticatory function; yet 14%knew the importance of aesthetic and speech as well. All subjects preferred fixedprosthesis for replacement of missing tooth, but higher cost of the procedure andfear of surgical trauma were the main factors for not undergoing implant treatment.Dental professionals were the main source of information about different treatmentprocedures followed by media.CONCLUSIONSThere is a strong level of awareness among the subjects about the fixed treatmentprocedure, but more than half of the subjects did not have knowledge about theimplants. It also revealed the need to provide the subjects with more knowledgeabout this treatment modality. Dental awareness is therefore necessary in order tocultivate a positive attitude towards dental implants amongst the community

RESUMO

Congenital Ovarian cysts are among the commonest intra-abdominal masses encountered in foetuses on antenatal screening, mostly during the third trimester of pregnancy. Though the etiology remains unknown, the most prevalent hypothesis holds maternal hormonal stimulation responsible for the pathology. Most are asymptomatic but potential complications can be life-threatening. A case of a 7 day old female baby was reported with normal antenatal scans and complaints of abdominal distension and vomiting since day 1 of life. Imaging included a Ultrasonographic diagnosis of suspected ovarian lesion and an MRI diagnosis of omental cyst. Due to progressive abdominal distension, authors proceeded with laparotomy. Left salpingo-oophorectomy was done as no ovarian tissue was salvageable. Post-operative period was uneventful. The histopathological picture was that of benign follicular cyst of ovary.

RESUMO

Background: “Students’ Feedback” is an important tool to evaluate the teaching- learning and evaluation methodologies. It can identify strengths and weaknesses which can be used to strengthen methodologies. Objective: 1.To develop a tool to obtain feedback from Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy undergraduate students. 2. To identify strengths and weaknesses in the current teaching-learning and evaluation methodology in pharmacology using feedback from Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy undergraduate students. Materials and methods: Prevalidated Questionnaire consisting of questions pertaining to teaching-learning and evaluation methodology was designed. Students of 2nd and 3rd year Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B. P. Th.) and students of 2nd year Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (B. O. Th.) were requested to fill the questionnaire. The questionnaires were analyzed. Results: Students were satisfied with the current teaching-learning methodologies except they showed preference to introduce case studies and group discussions. According to them, power point presentation with chalk and board was the most effective A-V aid. Students opined that Chemotherapy and ANS should be covered in more detail. All the students felt that the questions with model answers asked in formative evaluations should be discussed with them. Conclusion: Current teaching learning and evaluation methodology could be strengthened by inclusion of case studies and group discussions and discussion of model answers with students post examinations.
