RESUMO

A: A restrospective study was carried in order to evaluate the efficacy and safety of retrobulbar anaesthesia during keratoplasty. Of 250 consecutive keratoplasty, 30 [12%] were performed under retrobulbar anaesthesia. Patients received a mean volume of 12ml, composed of etidocaine [2/3], bupicaine [1/3] and hyaluronidase. Ocular compression duration was at least 20 minutes. Surgery was found painless by 90% of patients. Akinesia was complete in 80% of cases. Theses results demonstrate that retrobulbar anaesthesia may be recommended to this type of surgery

RESUMO

Strabismus surgery is performed with general anaesthesia since it's a paediatric surgery in the majority of cases. The aim of our study is to analyse the safety and tolerance of peribulbar anaesthesia for strabismus surgery. Patients and methods: sixty two patients underwent strabismus surgery with a peribulbar anaesthesia. All patients had premedication the evening before and two hours before the surgery. All patients were examined to evaluate the efficacy and the safety of such anaesthesia. The main age was 31,5 years. Forty patients were females and twenty two were males. None had reported pain. Three patients reported just incomfort during surgery. Orthoptic results were acceptable. Peribulbar anaesthesia has shown to be an effective alternative for general anaesthesia for strabismus surgery in an attempt to reduce the morbidity and mortality. It takes importance particularly in patients of high-risk characteristics and in monocular surgery

RESUMO

Ocular traumatisms represent an important cause of morbidity in children. They expose to a major risk of amblyopia. This retrospective study is about 136 children aged of 1 to 15 years, admitted to the hospital of HABIB BOURGUIBA SFAX between 1992 and 1998 for ocular traumatism. Sex ratio was 2.77. The domestic accident represented the most frequent circumstance[45.59%]. Ocular traumatism are primarly caused in our cases by projection of stones [33.09%]. Perforation was twice more frequent than contusions. Anterior segment lesions were dominated by corneoscleral wounds[61.03%]. Vitreous hemorrage was the most frequent lesion of the posterior segment [9.56%] We found palpebral wound without lesion of lacrimol tract in four cases. The recourse to surgery treatment was imperative in 2/3 of cases. A healing was noted in 20.59% of cases, but the prognostic was always bad because 55.88% of children had a visual acuity less than 1/10 and 10% had a phtisis of the ocular globe The functionnal concequences and the esthetic prejudice emphasize the importance of the prevention

RESUMO

The authors report a case of one 5-month-old infant having an anteriour optic ways and chiasmal glioma revealed by a unilateral left nystagmus. The etiological research involves the electrophysiological explorations, a neurological check-up and a computed tomographic head scan. The very presence of a unilateral nystagmus should systematically lead to the search of a cerebral tumour especially an optic ways glioma

RESUMO

Primary open angle glaucoma is an ocular affection which causes blindness, more frequent with diabetic patients whose age excess 40 years old. In our retrospective study for a period of 2 years we could estimate a primitive glaucoma frequency on patients operated for glaucoma. A review of literature allowed us to draw the diabetic ocular risks, to study means of treatment and prevention of glaucoma in diabetics by systematic ocular tonus measure
