RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influencing factors on the happiness of community-dwelling older adults in Korea. METHODS: A convenience sample of older adults (N=191) who did not enrolled in any specific exercise programs participated in this cross-sectional correlational study. The data were collected from July to August, 2017. Participants were asked to respond to fill questionnaires including depression, physical activity, and happiness. Physical activity was classified according to physical activity scores(inactivity, minimally activity, health enhancing physical activity). Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, χ² test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS (ver. 24.0). RESULTS: The influencing factors on happiness were depression (β=−.64, p < .001), physical activities (minimally activity=1; β=−.15, p=.014), and religion (have=1; β=.10, p=.029). Hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that the determinant variables accounted for 58% of the variation in the happiness (F=53.37, p < .001). CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that depression, physical activity and subjective health status influence the happiness of older adults who did not involved in any exercise program. Effective healthcare programs for managing depression and increasing the level of physical activity could increase the level of happiness among older adults.

RESUMO

The authors evaluated ultrasonographic findings of 12 cases in thirty lymphangiomas which were provenpathologically or surgically at Wonju christian hospital fram Aug. 1978 to Apr. 1985. The results were as follows:1. The age distribution was 16 cases in first decade, 7 cases in 2nd decade, 2 cases in 3rd decade, 3 cases in 4thdecade, 2 cases in 7th decade. 2. The male to female ratio was 14:16. 3. The location of lymphangiomas were 14cases in head & neck, 8 cases in extrimity, 4 cases in back & chest, 4 cases in abdomen, and 1 case in scrotum. 4.The size of lymphangioma were variable, (2-20cm). 5. Ultrasonographic findings in 12 cases of lymphangioma werehypoechoic (12), eliptical(11), internal septation (8), and internal hyperechoic component(3).

RESUMO

Ca45 resorption and incoporration into albino rat-bones in tissue culture was considered in studying the pathogenesis of osteoporosiscaused by cotinued administration of glucocorticoid, hydrocortisone succinate. 18-day old tibias were cultured in a chemically defined media, (BGJb). Hydrocotisone showed no effect on Ca45 resorption and little increase of Ca45 incorporation into bone. This may suggest that hydrocortisone produces osteoporosis not by direct effect but by secondary effects on calcium metabolism.

RESUMO

Biotin-deficient rats were raised on a purified ration containing raw egg white plus avidin. Urea synthesis and excretion were compared between the biotin-deficient and the pair-fed control rats. 24hrurinary urea excretion and the specific activities of carbamylphosphate synthetase, ornithine transcarbamylase, and arginase in the liver mitochondria fraction were no different between these two groups. The net urea production in the liver slice and in the isolated perfused liver of the biotin-deficient rats was similar to that of the pair-fed control. Thus the conclusion must be that biotin is not in urea in mea biosynthesis in the rat.

RESUMO

When about 300mg of L-ascorbic acid was given intravenously to the adults saturated with the vitamin, the increased blood level returned to almost the original level in 3 hours. Also the amounts of the vitamin absorbed by the tissue cells and metabolized in the body or excreted into the gastrointestinal tract were found to average 74.1mg in 3 hours. When about 300mg of L-ascorbic acid was given intravenously twice at intervals of 3 hours, an average of 101 mg of the vitamin was absorbed by the tissue cells and metabolized in the body or excreted into the gastrointestinal tract in 6 hours. When the vitamin was given orally to the saturated adults, the absorption rate increased as the test does increased. When large amounts (3.0gm) of the vitamin were given, the absorption rate reached the maximum. The maximum absorption in 6 hours was estimated as 681 mg of the vitamin.

RESUMO

The blood eanticoagulant factor (G. E.) in garlic was isolated. This substance was precipitated at a neutral pH as the calcium salt in water, and then the calcium salt was dissolved at a pH of 3.0. Calcium was removed by adding sodium oxalate. Then G. E. was precipitated by adding two volumes of 95% ethanol. The effect of G. E. on blood coagulation was studied; prothrombin time, blood clotting time, antithrombin, anti-Ac-globulin and fibrinolysis. A half mg of G. E. completely inhibited one ml of blood from coagulating. The blood specimen containing G.E. showed a prolongation of the prothrombin time. As the calcium ion concentration increased, the prothrombin time of the plasma containing G. E. was reduced, but not to that of the control(oxalated plasma). This indicated that G. E. inhibited the prothrombin time by precipitating calcium ions, and, in addition to this calcium precipitation, another means of G. E. inhibition may be present. G. E. showed fibrinolytic effects and, in the prothrombin time tests, the plasma containing G. E. always showed less fibrin formation than was shown with oxalated plasma. G. E. showed inhibition of fibrin formation in experiments on its antithrombic effect. But this action may not be due to the antithrombin effect of G. E. but to the fibrinolytic effect of G. E. In in-vivo experiments G. E. did not show any anticoagulant effect. From these facts, it may be said that G. E. has an anticoagulant effect in at least two ways in vitro; first by precipitating calcium ions and secondly by causing fibrinolysis.

RESUMO

Antigens for the diagnosis of clonorchiasis have been isolated from the adult Clonorchis. Following extracttion with a phosphate-citrate buffer solution, ultrasonic disintegration, and defatting with a chloroform-methanol mixture, the antigens were fractionated in a Diethylaminoethyl-Sephadex (DEAE-Sephadex) A 50 column using sodium chloride eluates. The antigens were evaluated by carrying out both skin tests and stool examinations to determine their sensitivity, specificity and cross reaction. These DEAE fractionated antigens show less cross reaction than Melcher's antigen. DEAE fractions were protein(280mmu peak) and nucleoprotein (260mmu peak) as indicated by spectrophotometry. These purified fractions represented by the 260mmu and 280mmu peaks were not free of cross reactions nor were they completely specific for clonorchiasis. It is therefore suggested that further attempts be made to eliminate cross reactions and to enhance specificity by a more detailed and complete method of purification or of preparation of the chemical components.
