RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the outcomes of intra-articular calcaneal fractures treated using AO calcaneal plate surgically. MATERAILS AND METHODS:Total 15 cases of intra-articular calcaneal fracture that treated with open reduction and internal fixation using AO calcaneal plate were evaluated. The patients were followed over a mean period of 19.8 months. The mean age was 41.6 years. By Sanders classification, there were 2 cases of type II, 10 cases of type III, and 3 cases of type IV. We evaluated radiological outcomes by Bohler angle, Gissane angle, calcaneal hight, calcaneal width and clinical outcomes by Creighton-Nebraska health foundation score. RESULTS:All fractures united at a mean duration of 13.3 weeks. Radiologically, the mean preoperative Bohler angle was 8.5 degrees and restored to 23.3 degrees . The mean preoperative Gissane angle was 118.7 degrees and restored to 124.2 degrees . The mean preoperative calcaneal hight was 30.8 mm and restored to 38.9 mm. The mean preoperative calcaneal width was 41.3 mm and restored to 35.3 mm. 10 cases had excellent and good clinical outcomes and 5 cases having fair outcome. Conculsion: In our study, open reduction and internal fixation using AO calcaneal plate showed good results with anatomical restoration of articular surface and stable fixation without late collapse

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the MR findings of gestational trophoblastic tumor(GTT) in correlation with pathological results. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nine patients who confirmed the diagnosis (four choriocarcinomas and five invasive moles) constituted the basis of our study. Pathologic specimens were taken from the tumors corresponding to the regions of interest on MR images. The MR images were analyzed in respect of the morphology and signal intensity of the tumors, uterine and adnexal vascularity, and the adnexal lesion. RESULTS: The MR findings of four choriocarcinomas were well-defined, hemorrhagic masses with central necrosis;the masses were hyperintense on Tl-weighted images. In contrast, the five invasive moles showed irregular and permeative masses with densely enhanced solid components and tiny cystic lesions. The trophoblastic proliferation, coagulation necrosis, and molar villi had variable signal intensities on Tl-and T2-weighted images. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that MR imaging is a promising tool for noninvasive morphologic analysis of GTTS.

RESUMO

Actinomycosis still poses a problem for correct clinical and radiologic diagnosis. We retrospectively analyzed CT findings in 7 patients with pathologically proven abdominal actinomycosis. Involved areas were the pelvis (n=3), greater omentum (n=2), liver (n=1), and kidney (n=1). CT confirmed the infiltrative nature of the disease with a tendency to invade across tissue plane and boundary. Five of seven cases were predominantly solid mass (pseudotumor) with focal low-attenuation areas while two were predominantly cystic mass with thickened wall. Contrast-enhanced CT showed dense, inhomogeneous contrast enhancement in the wall and/ or solid components of the masses in five. Minimal lymphadenopathy was noted in one case. CT is useful in demonstrating the extent and characteristics of this disease. Despite nonspecific findings, actinomycosis should be included in the differential consideration when CT shows an infiltrative mass with unusual aggressiveness and dense inhomogeneous contrast enhancement in patients with fever, leukocytosis, or long-term use of intrauterine contraceptive devices.
