RESUMO
This is a review of 1762 cases of primary total hip arthroplasty [THA] and 249 cases of revision THA performed over a 10 year period by 11 general orthopedic surgeons affiliated with the Lebanese University in order to determine the incidence of peri-prosthetic fractures. Peri-prosthetic fractures in this series are discussed according to timing, location, pattern, and cause. In addition, preventive measures and appropriate treatment are discussed

A review of 36 hips ages 3-9 years, with severe Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip [DDH], where a combined subtrochanteric varus, derotation and femoral shortening osteotomy, together with an innominate osteotomy was performed in one stage. The immediate and mean follow-up at six years revealed encouraging acetabular coverage and acceptable acetabular-hip congruency with minimal shortening

A review of 29 cases of osteoid osteoma over the past 15 years was carried out. This lesion was noted in several skeletal locations, and mimicked several conditions including inflammatory joint disease, spine derangement, internal derangement of various joints, other tumors both benign and malignant, growth disturbances, dysplasias and feet problems. Orthopedic surgeons are becoming more familiar with the diagnostic symptomatology and sequel. This has allowed an earlier diagnosis, thus preventing permanent deformities. With improvement in diagnostic technology, the lesion is detected earlier, and excised more precisely. Various techniques have been used to both localize and excise the lesion, with minimal disturbance to the involved site, both on an in- and out-patient program, with minimal cost

Two patients were diagnosed only after many disputes among pathologists to have a hemangioma of the distal femur and the tibial diaphysis. Both cases were diagnosed only after reviewing the incisional diagnosis. This is a rare lesion and one should be well acquainted with the radiological presentation. This would allow a better approach and management plan for the benefit of the patient

A review of Langerhans cell histiocytosis was carried out in Lebanon from 1965-1992. Out of a total number of 48 cases, there were 43 with unifocal and multifocal bone lesions. The condition can mimic many other bone lesions and a complete and adequate protocol differential diagnosis should be maintained in the mind of the managing surgeon. The incidence, presentation, investigation, management and long term follow-up are presented and compared with those of other series
