RESUMO

Chemical investigation of the ethyl acetate extract of Gibberella moniliformis JS1055 endophytic fungus derived from a halophyte, Vitex rotundifolia, led to the isolation of nine compounds including 7-butyl-6,8-dihydroxy-3(R)-pent-11-enylisochroman-1-one (1), 7-butyl-6,8-dihydroxy-3(R)-pentylisochroman-1-one (2), 7-butyl-6,8-dihydroxy-3(R)-pentylisochroman-1-one (3), 5α,8α-epidioxyergosta-6,9(11),22-trien-3-ol (4), ergosterol peroxide (5), tetradecanoic acid (6), 8-O-methylfusarubin (7), nicotinic acid (8) and adenosine (9). They were identified by extensive spectroscopic data analysis including 1D, 2D (¹H-¹H COSY, HSQC, HMBC) NMR, and ESIMS. All the isolates (1

RESUMO

On the phytochemical investigation of a 70% ethanol extract of the fruits of Opuntia ficus-indica, (Cacataceae), we could result in the isolation of thirteen phenolic compounds including seven flavonoids (1 - 9) and four simple phenolic glycosides (10 - 13) by column chromatographic methods. Among the isolated compounds, picein (11), androsin (12), and 1-O-feruloyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (13) were isolated for the first time from O. ficus-indica; additionally, this is the first report benzyl-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (10) from the genus Opuntia. The structures of the compounds were determined by spectral data analysis which included 1D, 2D NMR spectrum and ESIMS.

RESUMO

Milk-Alkali syndrome can be caused by ingesting large amount of calcium and absorbable alkali. Coincident with promotion of calcium therapy for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic renal failure, the Milk-Alkali syndrome is now a common cause of hypercalcemia. We experienced a case of a woman who had took calcium for hypoparathyroidism after thyroidectomy (and incidental parathyroidectomy) for thyroid papillary adenocarcinoma. Recently she ingested unusually large amount of calcium (10.8 g/day) for a week mistakenly. She presented voiding difficulty, anorexia and irritability with the triad of hypercalcemia, metabolic alkalosis and acute renal failure. All the metabolic abnormalities were normalized and renal function was improved with fluid and diuretic therapies.
