RESUMO

Retinopathy of prematurity(ROP), an abnormal vascular proliferative retinopathy of prematurity, is a serious condition that can lead to retinal detachment or blindness. With the development of neonatal medicine, the survival rate of low birth weight and low gestational age infants has been increasing, as well as the incidence of ROP. Therefore, studying ROP's pathogenesis and influencing factors is of great clinical importance. Numerous studies have been conducted on the risk factors for ROP, including gestational age, oxygen intake, mode of delivery, neonatal bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and the use of surfactants. At present, it is widely accepted both at home and abroad that preterm birth, low birth weight, and high oxygen concentration after birth are independent risk factors for ROP. In recent years, more and more scholars have found that abnormalities in blood indicators in preterm infants may be associated with the development of ROP. This article reviews the effects of platelets, haemoglobin, blood glucose, inflammatory cells, and lipids on ROP, providing a reference for identifying and preventing risk factors for ROP.

RESUMO

AIM: To investigate the effect of residual astigmatism on visual quality after phacoemulsification combined with regional refractive intraocular lens(IOL)implantation in patients with age-related cataract, and to evaluate the astigmatism inclusivity of regional refractive IOL.METHODS: Retrospective cohort study. The clinical data of 62 cases(73 eyes)of age-related cataract patients who underwent phacoemulsification combined with regional refractive IOL(Lentis Comfort LS-313 MF15)implantation from July 2020 to March 2022 at the ophthalmology department of our hospital were collected. They were grouped according to residual astigmatism at 6 mo postoperatively, taking 35 cases(40 eyes)with residual astigmatism of 0.75 D to 1.50 D as the experimental group, and 27 cases(33 eyes)with residual astigmatism ≤0.75 D as the control group. Visual acuity, defocus curves, objective visual acuity [wavefront aberrations, Strehl ratio(SR), modulation transfer functions(MTF)], subjective visual acuity(national eye institute visual function questionnaire-25), patients' satisfaction, and spectacle independence were compared between the two groups at 6 mo postoperatively.RESULTS:There was a difference in the preoperative astigmatism and the number of postoperative 6 mo residual astigmatism between the two groups(P<0.01). At 6 mo postoperatively, there was no difference in uncorrected distance, intermediate, and near visual acuity, objective visual quality, subjective visual quality, satisfaction, and spectacle independence between the two groups(P>0.05). The defocus curves showed that there was no difference in visual acuity between the two groups at all points in the +2.00 to -4.00 D defocus range of the additional spherical equivalent(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Lentis Comfort LS-313 MF15 IOL was able to accommodate regular astigmatism of 1.50 D.

RESUMO

Objective:To investigate whether transplantation of gingival mesenchymal stem cells (GMSCs) can inhibit radiation-induced senescence of alveolar epithelial cells type Ⅱ (AECⅡ) and its role in the prevention of radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis (RIPF).Methods:Mouse type Ⅱ alveolar epithelial cells (MLE12) were irradiated with 6 Gy X-rays and then co-cultured with GMSCs. The extent of cellular senescence of MLE12 cells was assessed by cell morphology, β-Gal staining, and senescence secretion-associated phenotype (SASP) assay. RIPF model was constructed by unilaterally irradiating the right chest of C57BL/6 mice with 17 Gy X-rays. GMSCs were transplanted 1 d after irradiation. At 180 d after irradiation, the pulmonary organ ratio, HE staining, and Masson staining were used to assess intra-pulmonary structure and interstitial collagen deposition in the lung. β-Gal immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence co-localization with AECⅡ were measured to assess the degree of cellular senescence in the lung. The SASP expression changes in lung tissue were detected by qRT-PCR. The protein expressions in P53-P21 and P16 pathways were detected by Western blot assay. P21 expression in AECⅡ was detected by immunofluorescence co-localization assay. Results:GMSCs effectively inhibited radiation-induced senescence of MLE12 cells, reduced the ratio of radiation-elevated β-Gal positive cells by 11.8% ( t=6.72, P<0.05), and decreased the expressions of SASP (IL-6, IL-8, IL-1β) ( t=28.43, 28.43, 4.82, P<0.05). GMSCs transplantation improved the survival rate of irradiated mice, prevented radiation-induced alveolar structural collapse thickening and collagen deposition, reduced the number of senescent cells in the irradiated lung tissues by 23.9% ( t=21.83, P<0.05), and inhibited the expressions of SASP ( t=8.86, 20.63, P<0.05). GMSCs also inhibited the expression of P53-P21, P16-related proteins in MLE12 cells and lung tissues of mice after irradiation. Conclusions:GMSCs inhibit senescence-related P53-P21 and P16 pathways, prevent radiation-induced AECⅡ senescence, as well as the development of RIPF.

RESUMO

Purpose To investigate the role of SOCS3 on diabetic renal injury. Methods Male CD-1 mice were randomly divided into four groups:control group, diabetic group, empty plasmid vector transfection group and SOCS3 plasmid transfection group. The diabet-ic mice were induced by intraperitoneal injection of STZ at a dose of 150 mg/kg body weight. The mice of transfection group were re-ceived an injection of SOCS3 plasmid or empty vector at every 7 days thereafter. Specimens were collected at 12 week after STZ injec-tion. The morphological changes of tubular epithelial cells were observed by transmission electron microscope. RT-PCR and immuno-histochemistry were used to determine the mRNA and protein expression of CK18 and α-SMA. Western blotting analysis was used to determine the protein expression of SOCS3, p-STAT3, CK18 and α-SMA. Results SOCS3 overexpression in kidney down-regulated the levels of p-STAT3 andα-SMA but up-regulated the expression of CK18. Conclusion Overexpression of SOCS3 can ameliorate the tubular epithelial-mesenchymal transdifferentiation of diabetic mice via inhibiting the phosphorylation of STAT3.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate relationship of the long-term variation trend of the occurrence of sudden deafness respectively with solar activity and the global warming.@*METHOD@#We utilized the empirical mode decomposition, cross-correlation, and the statistical test methods to analyze the yearly percent rate (PR) of sudden deafness patients at the second affiliated hospital of Xian Jiangtong University, the yearly mean sunspot number (SSN), and the temperature series (T) in Xi'an district during the years of 1980 to 2009.@*RESULT@#The trend component of T was highly correlated to the trend component of PR, and the IMF (intrinsic mode function) component of SSN was highly correlated to the IMF component of PR.@*CONCLUSION@#The occurrence of sudden deafness is indeed statistically affected by solar activity and temperature. The trend component of PR is inferred to be probably caused by the trend component of T, and it is solar activity (SSN), especially its periodical wavelike component that should probably give rise to the wavelike component of the occurrence (PR) of sudden deafness. Some explanation has been given to issue the found relationship. Also given is the plausible mechanism of solar activity and temperature acting on occurrence of sudden deafness.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)/extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK) signaling pathway in the endometrium of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and its effect and significance in the cause of hyperplasia and carcinoma;and investigate the factors which affect the activation of the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway. Methods Collected 52 patients diagnosed as PCOS who were taken dilation and curettage of uterus as study, while 32 non-PCOS patients matched as control group. Serum hormonal parameters, fasting blood glucose and insulin were measured in all patients. The PCOS patients were sub-group as insulin resistance group and non-insulin resistance group; all the patients were carried out pathology inspection of endometria, and the PCOS patients were sub-group as endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma group and normal endometrium group based on the outcome of pathology inspection. Western blot were performed to detect the expressions of ERK1/2 and phosphorylated ERK1/2 (p-ERK1/2), the activation of ERK1/2. Results (1)The expression of pERK1/2 [(61 ±13)%] in the endometrium in PCOS group was higher than that in the control [(44 ±10)%, P <0.01]. (2)The expression of p-ERK1/2 was significantly increased in group of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma [ ( 70 ± 11 )% ] compared to that in group of normal endometrium [ (55 ± 10)% ,P < 0.01 ], while there were significant difference between group of insulin resistance [ (63 ± 13 )% ] and group of non-insulin resistance [ (55 ±7)%, P <0.01 ]. (3) Fasting insulin level, insulin area under the curve and body mass index were related to the expression of p-ERK1/2 in endometrium with PCOS, the correlation coefficient were 0.447, 0.456 and 0.381, respectively ( all P < 0.01 ). Conclusions The MAPK/ERK signaling pathway in endometrium with PCOS was overactivation, which was related to the endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma; while the activation of MAPK/ERK signaling pathway were effected by insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To summarize advances in clinical application of ureter stent and its biocompatibility. METHODS: A computer-based online search of CNKI (1989/2009) and Medline (1989/2009) was performed with the key words of "ureter, biocompatibility, stent, treatment, complications" in Chinese and English respectively. A total of 51 articles were collected. and 21 were included. The treatment advances and its biocompatibility of ureter stent were summarized, and clinical application advances, biocompatibility and complication prevention of ureter stent were explored. RESULTS: Ureter stent includes polymerizer, metal and degradable material stents. As the common implants in treatment of upper urinary tract diseases, ureter stent functions as stent and internal drainage, and relieve ureteral obstruction, prevent leakage of urine postoperatively and ureterostenosis. Complications following ureter stent implantation include stent shifting, urine reflux, irdtative symptoms of bladder, fouling and stone formation as well as infection. However, these complications can be relieved through positive treatment. CONCLUSION: Ureter stent is an effective approach to treat urologic disease, but the biocompatibility required improvement. Rigorous operation during stent implantation and positive treatment of complication can effectively prevent complications.
