Background: Breastfeeding has been a universally accepted practice. Due to awareness in urban areas breastfeeding is practiced by almost all mothers whereas mothers in rural areas practice lesser. This might be due to varied factors like female literacy, low awareness etc. Aims & Objective: To find out the pattern of breast feeding practices in the rural mothers of Nagamangala Taluk, Mandya District. Material and Methods: Mothers with children who were 9 months old and above who came to Bellur PHC for measles vaccination and booster doses of DPT and OPV were included in the study and the data was collected using a pre-tested, structured questionnaire. The study was done for five months from January 2010 To May 2010). Results were analyzed using Percentages, Chi Square test. Results: 28% of the mothers initiated breastfeeding within 60 minutes; prelacteal feeds used were cow’s milk, jaggery water and honey. Only 35% mothers fed their infants exclusively for the optimal duration of 6 months and 36% mothers weaned their infants prematurely. The most common weaning food was cow’s milk. RESUMO

Primary Hyperparathyroidism [HPT] is an inappropriate hyper secretion of parathyroid hormone [PTH]. Primary HPT is caused by parathyroid adenoma in 80-85% of patients. Clinical manifestations are kidney stones, abdominal groans, painful bones, psychic moans, and fatigue overtones. Ultrasonography is widely used in suspected cases for localization of parathyroid adenoma. There is considerable intra-observer variation and it is difficult for ultrasound alone to differentiate parathyroid lesion form that of thyroid. Dual phase Tc-99m MIBI scinitigraphy for detection of parathyroid adenomas has sensitivity and specificity values ranging from 82% to 100% and from 89% to 100%, respectively. Percutaneous ethanol injection for parathyroid glands can be applied effectively in selected cases when surgery is unadvisable either for technical reasons e.g., recurrence of hyperplastic glands in the neck after subtotal surgery or intrathyroideal parathyroid tumors or the poor clinical state of the patient

RESUMO

Workers in information technology (IT)-enabled services like business process outsourcing and call centers working with visual display units are reported to have various health and psycho-social disorders. Evidence from previously published studies in peer- reviewed journals and internet sources were examined to explore health disorders and psycho-social problems among personnel employed in IT-based services, for a systematic review on the topic. In addition, authors executed a questionnaire- based pilot study. The available literature and the pilot study, both suggest health disorders and psychosocial problems among workers of business process outsourcing. The details are discussed in the review.
