RESUMO

To describe the frequency of malignant ovarian tumors in outpatients and to describe its histopathological variants. It was a descriptive study carried out at the Department of Gynae and Obs in J.RM.C over a period of 18 months from 2001 to 2002. Consecutive patients were admitted with the diagnosis of Gynaecological malignancies confirmed on investigations and all underwent laparotomies during the same admission. Various parameters were analyzed including age, parity, comorbid conditions, menstrual history, family history of cancer and previous surgeries etc. Statistical analysis was carried out utilizing SPSS 10.0 for windows. During this study 70 patients were diagnosed to have gynaecological malignancy. Among them 16 patients [22.85%] had malignant ovarian tumors and their histopathology reports showed that majority of cases i.e,10 patients [62.5%] had tumors of epithelial origin, 2 [10.5%] belong to sex cord tumors, 1 [6.25%] was of germ cell origin and 1 patients had metastatic ovarian tumor. It was concluded from our study that ovarian tumor rate is quite high and seen more frequently in young females and majority of cases had tumors of epithelial origin

The symptoms of the ovarian tumors are often non-specific and vague, which makes it difficult to diagnose. Prognosis is poor if not treated in early disease

RESUMO

A case of ruptured cornual pregnancy is presented here. The patient presented with history of 30 weeks gestational amenorrhoea and pain in the lower abdomen and epigastrium for the last seven days. Ultrasound revealed a 29 weeks abdominal pregnancy with blood in the pelvic cavity. On laparotomy; there was a ruptured right cornual pregnancy, treated cornual resection and uterine repair. An alive male baby of one kg weight was delivered from the resected cornua of the uterus
